More on Gainax(?)
Somebody told me I need to write more so people don’t assume wrong things. The two people in involved in the mess are production manager Mimori Keiko(disgusting otakus die) and Gurren Lagann producer Takami Akai(2ch is like an anus).
The current flow of events:
1) Gurren Lagann ep 1 airs and most people love it
2) Mimori Keiko sees comments from the small minority that did not like ep 1 and says she does not want to deal with digusting otaku anymore and they should all die
3) Takami Akai replies that “2ch is an anus. It’s full of brainless trash that think they are superior to all.”
4) Episode 4 airs and there is a riot on the net over the bad art
5) Mimori Keiko comments that “That episode is something that only a pro would appreciate. Amateurs that don’t know what they are talking about should not comment about it lol.”
6) People notice old comments made earlier in the month about disgusting otaku.
All the comments from the Gainax staff were personal comments made on mixi, a social networking service. The actual posts can be seen here and here.
Not really related but Gainax apparently also put up a Gurren Lagann comic two days ago featuring the mascot from Precure 5 getting shot by Yoko, and Toei got pissed off.

most anime watchers ARE retards and don’t know shit about good animation and style, was proven often enough.
That being said, amazing episode and in the end the show will still make an impact. Remember Eva.

This is why people really shouldn’t talk about their work without clearing it with some PR folks first. Gainax deserves whatever blow-back they get from this flap.
That said, I really enjoyed the first three episodes of Gurren Lagann and fully expect to continue liking it in the future. I didn’t care for the art style in episode 4, but visual style wasn’t the show’s only virtue.
As for the offending comments made by Gainax staff, otaku are disgusting, and I wouldn’t expect any woman to want to deal with them. This should be common knowledge. I disagree with the second statement, though: the *chan sites aren’t the anus of the Internet. They’re the oozing syphilitic sores of the Internet, a disgusting reminder of the casual mistakes of the past.

Considering that /m/ adores the show because of it’s over the top super-robot awesomeness and /a/ adores the show because of Yoko’s tits, safe to say 4chan would come up and defend Gainax.

Did you actually take a look at 2ch? Clearly the super robo fad is over and GAINAX shows aren’t generally as well received as you would like them to be. Ratings were already weak after episode 1 and suffered another drop afterwards.

Man, I didn’t like Gainax before but that was just a matter of personal preference. Some of this shit talk against their own fanbase makes them seem like real assholes.

2channel may be “a hangout for lonely Japanese otaku” but it has a wide range of opinion and a wide range of quality of posts. it’s just that sometimes the foul-mouthed and unimaginative herd has more and louder voices than the more interesting posters. one thing for sure, though, there are a lot of people there who know a lot of anime.

I’m a year late, but I’d like to thank you for writing this up. I had to Google quite a few pages before I found one that explained this incident.
And call me a conspiracy nut, but it all sounds like an advertising stunt to me. Got a new show? No one really paying attention yet? Why not insult the *chan boards? The channers will hate you, but watch your show *anyway*, because they’re perverse like that. And the people who *hate* the channers will love you because you insulted their enemies. Everybody wins!
