Bokurano director hates the original manga
Morita Hiroyuki, director of the currently running TV anime ‘Bokurano‘, has admitted on his blog that he hates the original manga on which the anime is based on, and has in some ways, been making changes to the story with negative intentions towards the original work.
He continues with how he had asked the author of the manga if he could save the kids, with the author replying that it is fine as long as he doesn’t use magic, and that conversation basically set the direction that the anime was going to take.
And after writing about various things regarding the anime, he closes with the statement “The director of the anime version of ‘Bokurano’ hates the original work. Viewers should not expect to see any aspects that they liked about the original manga appearing in the anime. So fans of the manga, please stop watching the anime’

I had to look them up on wiki, but… The manga by the same guy who made Narutaru, and a director that’s “most famous for directing Ghibli movie The Cat Returns”… What where they thinking matching these guys up? ^^;

Well there’s no way I’ll stop watching the anime. If the manga will give a bad end, then the anime will give a good end. It’s always good to have 2 different versions when you have the original thats the manga anyways. Sometimes I think it’s so boring to have the anime go exactly like the manga… of course there are cases like Dgray man when they have shit ass fillers… and Naruto.. and Bleach…

I’m a fan of both the anime and manga version of Bokurano. So far the changes (order of the pilots, earlier awareness by the authorities, tattoos and symbolism, etc) that have been made to the anime version have all been very well done in my book. I think it’s an improvement to the original manga. But that’s not to say that the manga isn’t great as it is read on it’s own.
It’s also important to note, that characterisation of all the characters so far in the anime against the manga are exact and I think that’s really important in adapting any manga into anime or movie or tv series. I assume what the director is really trying to say is that the die-hard fans of the Bokurano manga, please don’t bother him with hate mail/comments.
