Modified picture of Haruhi expected to sell for more than 8,500 USD in charity auction?

sobad.jpgAccording to the Australian newspaper the Herald Sun, a charity auction will be held on the 28th in South Yarra, Australia, auctioning art from contemporary artists. They expect most of the art to sell for more than 10,000 AUD (8,500 USD) and one of the pieces that will go on sale is a modified picture of Haruhi saying “You are so bad!” by artist Song Ling. You can read the full english article here. (source: 2ch)

I’ll never understand how fine art works. I’ll bet a photoshopped picture of Churuya asking for smoked cheese will sell for 20,000 USD!

What’s even bad is that Haruhi SUzumiya’s name is not even mentioned ocne in the article. This is a bad for Haruhiism. We oughta do something.

There’s already pop art of Marylin Monroe or the Beatles, why not haruhi? I think the “artist” wanted to show that Suzumiya Haruhi is now as famous as Monroe or the Beatles or wanted to show her influence in the underground world which is the japanese animation. She’s now like a real life person star, if not a goddess. It looks like cheap (maybe it is) but he wanted to show something with it and in my point of view, he managed to do it for people who knows Art’s History AND Animation’s History which is a very restreint group of people, I can’t deny it.

Now I don’t know if he did (can do) it legitly.

I would like to say there is no way that picture can be legal but it seems that Japanese copyright laws are more loose then American copyright laws.

What kind of bull shit art is this? All the cultures are pushing empty art so that people don’t have to think how bad things really are. I am an artist and if we all work together all the different countries maybe some miracles can really happen. I wish people would take chances on new art.

    Sincerely
