I think the "artist" wanted to show that Suzumiya Haruhi is now as famous as Monroe or the Beatles or wanted to show her influence in the underground world which is the japanese animation. She's now like a real life person star, if not a goddess. It looks like cheap (maybe it is) but he wanted to show something with it and in my point of view, he managed to do it for people who knows Art's History AND Animation's History which is a very restreint group of people, I can't deny it.
