I guess Suzumoto saw what Hisaya Naoki did with Sola and thought "I can do that!"

Assuming he actually comes to work more than twice a month, maybe he can. Kotomi's scenario in Clannad was one of the most emotionally intense experiences I can think of.

That's true. However, my understanding is that the main vision behind his previous works originated through Jun Maeda (although, as you say, the actual execution was Suzumoto's). With these projects, it isn't uncommon for one person to dominate the planning process, while specific scenarios are delegated to sub-writers (who write according to the established plan). Little Busters! was developed this way. The same goes for most minori and Nekoneko Soft works.

On the other hand, Planetarian is the first pure reflection of Suzumoto's vision. In addition to the script, he created the world and concept from scratch.

Why do you say so? I'm not sure how differently he is regarded in english communities, but as a scenario writer at Key, Suzumoto is usually better known for having written the Summer chapter in Air and the Kotomi scenario in Clannad rather than his work on planetarian.

As far as lead planning and writing goes, Suzumoto only has Planetarian to his name. Nonetheless, he's widely regarded as one of the best scriptwriters to have worked with Key.

What I find more surprising is the large amount of talented ex-KEY personell, workign with Noizi Ito of all things. This is the closest we can get to Nozi Ito working on a KEY game (which I doubt has been done before)

But then again, there are so many dream team-ups in my head that I wish could happen that never would. Like Brian Herbert working with EA to recreate the Dune games from the movie perspective, but with the extended storyline. Or SNK making an actual eroge. Or My Way Entertainment, after the success of the Juggernaut Bitch, decided to rename Shana "Tabasce Sauce made in New York city !!" Looks like we have to make do with whatw e can.

Like this project... and Johnny Depp on Doraemon.

I will certainly be keeping an eye on this series. Hopefully it will become as great an anime as "Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi", and with Itou Noizi as an artist, it can't go wrong.
