Doujin author arrested for indecent manga

nihonowata.jpgNHK news reports that 39 year old doujin author Miyashita Masaya has been arrested by the police in Matsuyama City for distribution of indecent pictures. The reason given by the police for the arrest appears to be that the censorship was not sufficient.

Police suspect that the author has printed a total of 17,000 books between April 2005 and October 2006 and have confiscated 7 titles totalling 6,600 books.

The author is apparently Yasamata Shiyami, a semi-well known artist that worked on a number of games(including EVE) under C’s ware.

Edit: Doujindou has pictures of the covers of Shiyami’s latest doujinshi that was sold in stores in July this year. We can clearly see that there is no “adults only” mark on the cover, which probably contributed to the reason for the arrest.

Seems like those recent rumblings over increased enforcement of censorship on doujinshi artists are real. The art we know and love is being threatened!

Oh boy! Here’s comes the crackdown that will snowball into a moral panic! Goodbye, all erotic art in Japan! It was nice knowing you!

    :(

The censorship law is a big joke. The pixelation and little black stripes dosn’t really do much, I think they should stop pretending and just drop the stupid law.

    oh noes!
give me a break, this is news because its incredibly rare. until a list of like-treated authors is provided I must say… w/e… In America erotic comics are still legally suppressed, the outlets for such art is small boxes at cons and only the rare risk-taking comic book stores. Though the law is sporadically enforced, it is vaguely worded and allows for catastrophic penatlies - even publishers of erotic art just will not publish content common in Japan.

Just read up on it. Thanks for the info.

    So much for that joke
