Eva’s Spear of Longinus hits 10 Billion yen on Yahoo Auctions
The replica of the Spear of Longinus was made as a part of Gainax’s “Eva at work” project in celebration of the 10th anniversary of Evangelion. They put it up for auction on Yahoo auctions and it got hijacked with fake bids and now it’s at the maximum value that yahoo auctions can support.
It was going steadily at 1 million yen before it made a big jump to 15 million yen, then it all snowballed from there.

Man I hate it when they do that. That happened also when the Colbert Report was auctioning off a painting and it hit the max so they had to redo the auction with only secure bidders.

The Spear was part of the “Imagination of Evangelion” art exhibition which was held at Tokyo’s J-Art Project from July 21 to August 3. The steel Spear replica has a double helix design and is 2.2 meters long (over 7 feet) and 28 kilograms (a little less than 62 pounds). It was forged by artisan Kaoru Watanabe.
