Doujin nowadays just means independent productions

The Suigadou blog actually talked about what a doujin theatrical production means back in January. He says that he believes that a "doujin theatrical play" should contain elements of otaku culture or contain elements from pre-existing works and that a doujin group will adopt doujin principles and values in their operation.

Well, people charge for doujinshi as well. And I don't think most theater groups are proffesionals that make a living of it. And it's "doujin" because they're making a play based of a product that they didn't make. "Fan-made", you know ^^

What exactly makes this a "doujin"? I thought theater groups put on shows and charge people money...as a matter of course of business.

I think this is a sign.

A sign that the doujin group of Japan is changing from something amateur, to something more professional. Who knows what might come next from them.... maybe even the next Ringu.
