Book on the failure of the PS3 released

GK涙目www妊娠驚喜wwwThe PS3 had been perceived as a failure by most fans but the mass media have often avoided that topic. But now, the newly released book “Why did the PS3 fail?” by Tane Kiyoshi directly labels the PS3 as a failure and attempts to analyze the factors which led to this current situation.

The author Tane Kiyoshi is an editor for the subculture + gaming magazine Continue and originally stated that the PS3 would succeed.

    Ahaha, what.

  2. gia Says:

I think it’s a little early to say that the PS3 failed entirely– it always takes PlayStation systems a while to get going with good titles and stuff. The launch was kinda fail I guess.

  3. Magus Says:

    I don’t think the PS3 failed.

I think the Japanese are justing waiting for those key games to be released and then they’ll go out an buy a PS3.

    Final Fantasy XIII
    Final Fantasy Versus XIII
Final Fantasy VII Remake (We all this is coming too)
Kingdom Hearts 3 (We all know its coming eventually)
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

I can’t be sure, because I don’t live in Japan. So I don’t know what kind of vibe it over there. But I think once those games are released, the PS3 will be on top again. (As long as their good games) Or Sony will just go head to head with Nintendo.

  4. Tsubasa Says:

Well, Square has announced that FFXIII won’t be released until there’s a bigger and more solid PS3 user base. So count that one and probably any Squaresoft game out of that lineup. A Catch-22 if you ask me.

  5. Ansaga Says:

My god, it hasn’t even been a year… I don’t remember the last generation a console being labeled as a ‘failer’ so early. The Gamecube probably wasn’t labeled as a failer until… maybe 3 years in?

What really surprises me is how fewer and fewer people are playing standard consoles and playing handhelds more and more.

Everyone I know is too busy nowadays to sit down and play a game that takes 30-80 hours of gameplay to finish when they can just get a DS or PSP and play for 10-15 minutes at a time when they can.

    @Espr

Well people keeping stressing that videogames are for adults. So it makes sense that gamers don’t have alot of time to play console games. (because of Work,School, Married life, etc)

But that doesn’t mean that the tweens and the teens won’t be playing 30 - 80 hour games. They have all the time in the world, some of them anyway.

I guess handheld gaming is the future. But until the handhelds reach the power of the PS3 or Xbox 360, i don’t think people are going to give up playing their consoles just yet. Gamers today want hyper super realistic graphics and handhelds can’t do that yet. I’m pretty sure somewhere down the line the handhelds will get more powerful. (PSP is a start) That doesn’t mean graphics are everything, but i think that’s what gamers want the most. (Not me)

I think the only people who are probably going to give up playing console games first are the gamers who are in their mid to late 20s and early 30s. The ones who grew up playing the older consoles. (NES,SNES,Genesis, etc)

ps3 is a piece of shit.

  9. Charles Says:

gia > I agree. The launch was big ph4il, but, with some really huge titles coming out soon…. who knows ? Note that I dislike the PS and prefer the Wii….. but who knows.

Reading comments from other sites that have been responding to this, I’m actually really surprised at how positive the English community thinks about the PS3. And I used to think that I knew the English community when it came to gaming…

Sony has a really bad name with Japanese communities on the net because they had an army of employees who would talk about how awesome their games were in every gaming blog and forums, then they got exposed everywhere because they always posted with a Sony IP.

  11. Gizmo AZr Says:

HA ps3 has failed, it was a year late, crappy games, only one exlusive this month to keep it warm, poor thing, you just want to hug it eh? anyone else think it looks like a george forman grill? i reckon george forman has done better with the grill than sony has. sony fanboys open your eyes, you get better graphics AND gameplay for cheaper with 360. xbox live isnt a lag-fest either, ps3 = joke.

  12. Chris Says:

And there’s also a book about why the Nintendo DS is a success.

  13. uinreli Says:

It took some kind of evil talent to run the Playstation name into ground… That company could use a Stalin style purge!

  14. Jetlogs Says:

One of the reasons that PS3 is failing is because they try to market the console as a home entertainment system first, rather than trying to market it as a gaming console. Plus bringing the format wars to the gaming console is a really bad idea. At least with the 360, its optional. With the PS3, you’re forced to adopt their blu-ray technology

  15. Sennarli Says:

It’s a simple matter of price. Reason why the wii sells so many copies when it is a piece of crap? 250 USD. People would rather buy a 250 dollar piece of shit. It’s not like they haven’t sold plenty of PS3s in Japan, either. All sony needs is some games that the Japanese are going to eat up no matter how horrid they are, Dynasty Warriors Gundam being a good example. Either way, it’s way to early to say the PS3 is a failure in Japan when everyone KNOWS that it’s going to be the only console anyone is going to be playing in 2 years.

  16. Sister Princess Says:

Nah, right now PS3 is lacking a game that is as addicting as IdolM@ster, then all money will suddenly flowing in.

  17. DrmChsr0 Says:

The PS3 is nothing more than a cheap Linux box.

idolm@ster on the 360 only resulted a few more Japanese games getting released in America.

Notice how both consoles tanked in Japan.

  18. Damedameda Says:

English gamers are graphic whores. They’ll all look for an excuse to support PS3 eventually; they’re only resisting it now because of the money. Japan, who knows. I could see Japan just continuing to support the PS2 for 3 more years.

  19. Alfresco Says:

English gamers are graphic whores?? Wow, the wisdom you have is amazing. Why would we buy a games console for its grafics ability and not American’s. The only thing anyone has against the 360 is it breaks down. I’m on my third and if it goes again i would considder a ps3. I personaly think most people are waiting for the verdict on the blue ray v hd dvd battle as nobody wants to buy a ps3 and be paying a fair chunk for the blue ray hardwear for it to become obselite.
