The first animation graduate program in a Japanese University

omaeraike.jpgThe Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music is apparently planning to start an animation course in the University to breed anime directors and researchers that will be able to perform on an international level. This will be the the first university in Japan where you can major in anime on a university level.

The Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music is usually considered the top university in Japan when it comes to music and the arts, so it does put a bit of academic recognition on the artistic value of anime.

Edit: It’s the first university to offer a graduate program in Japan, not the first animation major. I knew I shouldn’t have tried to write about stuff like this when I’m not familiar with English education terms…

On the other side of the world…the schools there beg to differ.

Seriously I’d sell my soul if I could.

Oh man…. I can imagine the vast number of international students who want to get into an exchange programme just to take this course.

I’d have thought such a thing would have been in existence for a long time now. - ZM

You might want to correct this item, since it says stuff that the original Yahoo news source doesn’t. It’s not the “first animation course in a Japanese University”–several of universities in Japan have animation courses. It’s also not “the first university in Japan where you can major in anime on a university level.” Kyoto Seika University has an animation major already. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/ has a more accurate translation.

Thanks for pointing out the mistake, I hate myself.

But on the bright side….. Graduate progam ! Think about it !

A garduate degree in animation from Japan. Not just a major, but a graduate degree !! This would certainly attract the interest of many, many animation students the world over, especially animation majors !

Okay, that makes a lot more sense. Still a little surprising, though. - ZM
