Manga: Shinryaku! Ikamusume

Shinryaku! Ikamusume is a manga by Anbe Masahiro about a squid girl called Ikamusume who has come from the sea to invade mankind. The manga currently runs in Weekly Shounen Champion.

“This house will be my base of operations in my invasion of mankind!”
The story takes place at the beach as Ikamusume appears at a cafe by the beach announcing that she will be taking over the place, but gets forced to start working at there with a family of two sisters and a brother instead.

“I’m not a toy!”
Ikamusume wants to get take over all of mankind as humans have been dirtying the sea and harming the sea inhabitants, but apparently she thought that there were only about 1000 humans in the world, and she doesn’t know what guns or missiles are.

“Barbecued Squid!?”
The manga flows somewhat like a webcomic(which the author had been doing before his debut). Each chapter is only 8 pages and revolves around one major gag, such as using Ikamusume’s ink to make spaghetti or trying to get a sun tan using olive oil.

Considering how the manga is running in Champion and involves tentacles and the beach, you’d expect a lot of service shots, but instead the manga is completely the opposite. It’s so good and clean that it seems out of place to be running in a magazine like Champion.
This comic doesn’t really have you rolling with laughter or have much in moe elements. In fact it’s not anything special, but it just feels good reading it somehow.

…”-gen”? Is that a suffix she adds to every sentence?

Oh interesting. I’m having a bacteria fix now. Squids like this is nothing. will look forward to this in Shounen Champion.

My bad. It’s “-geso”.

She likes to end her sentences with “geso” or “ika”. Ikageso means squid tentacles so that’s where it comes from。
I keep expecting her to say “yarana-ika” someday.

Looks cute, but it does seem kinda like Gunso. Not that there’s anything wrong with that…

Wow, no fanservice? That’s pretty awesome. I don’t hate fanserivce but it has its place in fanservice anime but is getting inserted in almost any shounen stories around - it’s refreshing to hear of a new manga that doesn’t have any in it.
