Doujin music guidebook released

niceabe.jpgOtaroad blog reports that Sansai books has released a guidebook to the doujin music scene called “Doujin ongaku wo kikou!”. It contains the history of all the popular themes in the doujin scene apparently, together with a column on Sound Horizon and interviews with some creators.

just my opinion, but sound horizon seriously fell off when they went major

ive been wanting to release a air/kanon cd, but
    1) welcome to 2001
    2) without a japanese national with a japanese address on the team, registering for comiket is impossible
    3) sure i could get some on the team, but this was a solo effort

i know there are other events, but i cant be going to japan at funky ass times
im trying to get some touhou shit on this dudes shit for the next reitaisai, but these motherfuckers are being flaky as fuck (prolly cuz im a FUCKING GAIJIN TERRORIST FROM A BARBAROUS COUNTRY, prolly not)
i made some friends via hatsune miku, but i have issues with miku and atm im against using her on tracks

I think when it comes to anything ACG-related, there is a serious glass ceiling with regards to acceptance of non-Japanese-origin works. I mean, note the negative connotation associated with “OEL”.

I think the only way to really go about it is to separate oneself as a non-Japanese entity. Follow in the footsteps of OEL manga. I’m doing this with Visual Novels, and we have a few creators who already compose their own soundtracks.

Give it a little more time and you might have an OEL music scene to go along with OEL manga and OEL VNs. The weird part of course is what language the singing will occur in.

Several of us our trying our hands at hatsune miku but I don’t think more than one or two really know any Japanese. So for the moment I think she’ll just be good for a few “lalala” sound effects and the rest should be instrumentals.

we should get together for some discussion
ive always wanted to put out some doujin cds but me being outside of japan helps me NONE, and the idea of breaking away from japanese dependence strikes a harmonious chord to me.
a non-japanese doujin revolution? i was fucking there 7 years ago, just no one knew about it yet

also, ACG? im not familiar with that acronym. but yeah, OEL comes off pretty negatively from my point of view heh

about miku, the disappointing thing about her is that they completely disabled the english syllable table for her, and made her JAPANESE only, which i think is total bullshit. if only it was possible to take her sound banks and drop them into an english vocaloid2. and then if only it was that easy.
i still practice on miku from time to time, but i dont do the DTM thing, so incorporating her into my setup would be tricky (and/or ghetto), without buying additional hardware

you irc on EFnet at all? or IRCnet?

actually, i was thinking about what you said and what i said all day today

firstly, im not for supporting OEL anything (no offense)

but i am down for a north american doujin movement, utilizing japanese sources, but keeping the distribution outside of japan. i thought this is what you were getting at.

    to summarize:
    1) NA based circles(*) producing works which are
    2) based on sources of japanese origin (touhou comes to mind) with
    3) distribution outside and completely independent of japan

    * - i fucking hate this term, and i hope it does not enjoy usage here

basically, there is a derivative works copyright infringement scene just WAITING to happen here. and since we arent in japan, it should be easier to pull off. just stay away from shit that has representation in the US and it should be fine. or concentrate on shit where the original creators dont care/endorse it (touhou/typemoon/key/etc)

    .. i think im done.. i think
