Washinomiya City to sell Lucky Star goods
The Washinomiya commerce and industry association has started plans to start selling original Lucky Star cellphone straps carved using their local wood at the Washinomiya shrine and participating shops to attract more visitors to the city.
This is the same Washinomiya shrine where a local resident had previously raised concerns over otaku visiting the area because Lucky Star was based on real life spots in the area, which created some commotion resulting in the entire thing getting featured on TV.
The chairman for the local commerce and industry association also comments that they plan to continue to use anime to attract people to their city.
The Washinomiya area has been pretty much infected by Lucky Star:

I say why not, extra tourist and make places feels special
I remember I visited various real life locations of Onegai Teacher/Twins, AIR and Kanon. I had such a fun time and feels closer to the story/character and understand the writer’s experience and feelings when they write the stories.
