Yamadera Kouichi makes 60 million yen a year
This article on infoseek news is reporting about seiyuu Yamadera Kouichi’s divorce with his seiyuu wife Kanai Mika which was known some time ago, but what’s also interesting is that it also reveals that Yamadera’s yearly income is between 50 million yen to 60 million yen. (450,000 USD to 540,000 USD)
Interesting if you were wondering how much current top class seiyuu are making. Hayashibara Megumi was reportedly making between 80 million yen to 100 million yen during the peak of her career too.
You can compare that to new seiyuu that make 15,000 yen (135 USD) per episode that they appear in and have to work part-time in convenience stores to pay the bills.

Wow. More proof of how big a spread there is between the top older seiyuus and the new younger seiyuus. Where does all that money come from? I know older established seiyuus get paid a lot more for an anime than younger ones do, but perhaps the big money is in dubbing foreign films and TV shows?

Yama-chan is now a mainstream celebrity that host multiple TV shows, his work porfolio has branched out beyond 99% of the other seiyuu can dream of thus he’s not a good example for what seiyuu gets to make.
