Manga: Negative Happy Chainsaw Edge

Negative Happy Chainsaw Edge is a manga adaptation by Saiki Junichi based on the novel by Takimoto Tatsuhiko, also known for his work on the novel “NHK ni youkoso!”. Negative Happy Chainsaw Edge also has a live action movie adaptation (youtube) that has been in cinemas since the 19th of January.

The story is all about Yukisaki Eri, a beautiful highschool girl who fights with a mysterious hooded chainsaw wielding man in the night in order to uphold justice!

Yamamoto Yousuke is a 2nd year highschool student who’s depressed and looking for a reason to live after a good friend of his died in a traffic accident.

He runs into Yukisaki who was waiting on the streets for the chainsaw man to show up, and he gets caught in the battle and stuff like how these stories always go.

Despite the theme of the story which might give the impression that it’ll be all about panties and violence, the manga largely focuses on the characters’ lives and the battles with the chainsaw man usually lasts only a page or two. But there are panties.

Negative Happy Chainsaw Edge isn’t exactly the most interesting manga you’d see, and some people might have problems with the varying art quality and the ugly character expressions in the manga, but the story seems interesting enough to go on.
I just like the really stupid idea of schoolgirl vs chainsaw man.

Yeah, I’d probably read this just to find out what happens in the story. I mean, schoolgirl vs. chainsaw man. I’ll be damned if that isn’t interesting.

I enjoyed Takimoto Tatsuhiko’s NHK novel and manga but I think I’d be a lot more excited about this if Ooiwa Kenji /Ohiwa Kendi (however you want to romanize it) had teamed up with him again instead.
Might be worth a look but the art doesn’t seem like it would keep me interested.

Hmm, if thats the plot, it could last like 1-2 volumes.
Unless it goes to something more epic…

The art looks good from the samples here. I’ll check it out. But, I’d like it better if she was the one with the chainsaw, that’s a better gap…!!

I really liked this manga! The plot was vague, but that’s the point! I think it appeals to the dorky anime/manga fan who leads a boring life and wishes for something more. Something completely inexplicable, ridiculous, and exiciting! It reflects that pathetic wish in the soul of boring geeks everywhere.
