Campaign to make virtual child porn illegal

dagakotowaru.jpgThe Japanese government has been moving towards making the possession of child porn illegal recently, but Unicef feels it is not enough and they have been campaigning for the government to ban child pornography in manga, animated films and computer games.

However, their definition of virtual pornography is saying that even for AV involving real people above the age of 18, it should not be allowed if they look young and are dressed like in costumes like sailor uniforms which might make them look underage. Though people that obviously do not look underage should not be restricted.

Microsoft and Yahoo are supporting the campaign.

Eh, some of it could fly.
Surprisingly enough, the USA does not ban virtual child pornography (the muddy area where people start photoshopping existing pictures and you start arguing if it’s exploitative or not), though Canada and most of Europe do.
The involvement of realistic people portraying minors falls into this category.

In regards to manga, animated films and computer games, that falls into fictional child pornography, and is pretty much not going to be killed off any time soon law wise.

  2. mt-i Says:

“Quasi-child porn” my ass. And now the Minshutō is jumping into the bandwagon as well?!

  3. uinreli Says:

Why is MS behind this campaign anyway? One more reason to hate Microsoft.

  4. YOUR BUSINESS OF FUCKING NONE Says:

    TALK ABOUT FAIL CAMPAIGNS.

LETS ALSO TALK ABOUT DISK ENCRYPTION.
TRUECRYPT YOU SAY? WHY GO THROUGH ALL THE TROUBLE?
THE FEDS CAN CART AWAY YOUR BOX WHILE IT IS STILL POWERED ON, AND BRUTE FORCE YOUR ENCRYPTION QUITE EASILY PROVIDED YOUR ENCRYPTED PARTITION IS MOUNTED (A LIKELY SITUATION FOR NOOBS).

    FOR ME, GBDE > *.

BUT ENCRYPTION IS FOR PEOPLE WITH SHIT TO HIDE.
PEOPLE WITH SHIT TO HIDE USUALLY HAVE SOME INCRIMINATING SHIT THAT NEEDS TO STAY HIDDEN.
ENCRYPTING A DISK WILL ONLY PISS THE FEDS OFF MORE.
AND WHEN THEY EVENTUALLY BREAK YOUR ENCRYPTION, YOUR ASS IS GONNA BE EVEN MORE GRASS THAN IT WOULD HAVE BEEN HAD THE DISK BEEN LEFT ALONE.
BUT, IANAL, TL;DR, DONT CARE, ETC

ALSO, FROM WHAT IVE SEEN, TRUECRYPT HAS SHIT PERFORMANCE WHEN ENCRYPTING ENTIRE DISKS. GO AHEAD IF YOU LIKE SLOW SHIT. OH SO YOU GOT RAID6? ENCRYPTING THE ENTIRE ARRAY? YOUR I/O WILL FEEL LIKE A 4200 RPM DISK.

    BUT WHATEVER, I KNOW NOTHING.

  5. BTHE GUY ABOVE ME IS UNCLE RUCKUS Says:

    >BUT WHATEVER, I KNOW NOTHING
    Technically you do.

I sure enjoy your sexual naivete, as well as your misogynism. Next, I won’t be surprised if you spout off racist analogies.

And, as much as your last post has some value to it, your capslock is frustrating. It should be outlawed in these here parts.

  6. Charles Says:

    >Fictional child pornography (stories written down and games) and a grey area in the states - several people have been prosecuted for having stories (all text) on their computers or printed out. This kind of interpretation of the law makes me believe it will eventually cover anime style games and animation/videos as well.

I consider this the most true.

I mean, is it illegal to ban lolicon art on the idea that is ‘pedophile’ ? It doesn’t seem wrong, but, it also seems as an excuse and an outlet for allowing pedophile tendencies. And, the line between fantasy reality can very easily be blurred.

  7. Tyrenol Says:

Meh. “It’s all in the name of protecting children. Either you’re for it, or you’re a pedophile.” I agree with the belief, but the schematics DO get a bit muddy when you try to define them.

There’s a line drawn between a show like Nanoha (elementary school magical girls) and “Kodomo No Jigan” (elementary school girls trying way too hard to be sexy).

And there’s line drawn between political scum who sit around children during advertisements and overaged homosexual pedophiles who end up working as politicians in Washington.

I hope whatever problems that are going on can be solved by adults with mature minds.

  8. Kittens'n'Bread Says:

    AAAHHH, MY FUCKING LOLIS!

  9. Mugi Says:

I’m all for them banning real child porn, no arguing about that as in most cases a crime have been commited for it to be made after all.

But banning virtual ones is a big step to far.

  10. Pedr-A-Aziz Says:

Guys…girls are like tampons, once you use them up you can just throw them away, I think this is why Japenise turn to child porn, because they value innocence and perfection, if you don’t believe me watch anime

  11. Charles Says:

Dude, are you trying to offend any female readers of this blog ? (and I know some of them)

I mean, while I admit there’s a slight misogynism for anime in some parts… jamn, that’s the most chauvinist quote I’ve heard yet. First milk, not tampons.

Next, you might say they’re not even human.

  12. NONE OF YOUR FUCKING BUSINESS Says:

    >I sure enjoy your sexual naivete, as well as your misogynism. Next, I won’t be surprised if you spout off racist analogies.
WAIT, WHUT? YOU GOT ME CONFUSED WITH SOME OTHER CAT RIGHT THERE. I AM NOT PEDO-AL-ASSHOLE OR WHOEVER THE FUCK.

    >your capslock is frustrating. It should be outlawed in these here parts.
    CRY MORE.

  13. Charles Says:

Crying ? I’m merely commenting. If I were crying, I’d be:

WAAAHHH NOYFB IS A MEANIE WAAAHHHHH

I’m a commentator. The above is an example of a crybaby.

And seriously, you’re both -tarded. At least Pedr’s more civil.

  14. Paratta Says:

In this arcticle they say manga/anime are excluded:

  15. Charles Says:

Well, glad to see some people respect that proud concept of ‘freedom of expression’ despite the far-reaching implications it can bring.

  16. soloista Says:

And so Touhou is eliminated off the face of the earth.

  17. Zepy Says:

    >Paratta
manga/anime is excluded in the legislation that is being drafted, but Unicef is campaigning for it to be included.

  18. YOUR BUSINESS OF FUCKING NONE Says:

    >While it’s true that TrueCrypt will probably piss off investigators more
NO, ITS QUITE EASY TO BREAK THE ENCRYPTION AS LONG AS THEY CAN GET ACCESS TO YOUR BOX WHILE THE POWER IS STILL ON.

    >in the US I can’t be forced to divulge the contents of my mind in court
FOR NOW YOU ARE SAFE. YOU MUST NOT BE AWARE OF CURRENT EVENTS AND THE DIRECTION THE US IS HEADED.

    >As for the ram recovery thing, it’s not susceptible if you don’t leave the volumes mounted when they’re not in use
THIS MATTERS NOT, TRUECRYPT DOES NOT ENCRYPT EACH INDIVIDUAL SECTOR, BREAKING ONE SECTOR REVEALS THEM ALL.

  24. TriOptimum Says:

“hey that’s a good point dude, so you’re saying that child porno is like a big FU to the government and censorship ? that is very punk and I gotta agree,”

NO, no, not at all, don’t get me wrong, child porn is bad, I’m not saying they shouldn’t disallow that. I’m saying that animated and drawn things depicting children in sex situations (or even just inappropriate siatuations) shouldn’t be subject to this kind of ban, which is what the law in the article is suggesting.

“NO, ITS QUITE EASY TO BREAK THE ENCRYPTION AS LONG AS THEY CAN GET ACCESS TO YOUR BOX WHILE THE POWER IS STILL ON.”

You don’t know what you’re talking about dude. If the volume isn’t mounted, they key isn’t stored in RAM, and therefor it’s virtually impossible for anyone to break the key to the encrypted volume, regardless of if the computer is on, in hibernation, or off. The volume has to be mounted, or the entire disk encrypted, so that the key is stored in RAM, in order to get access to the key using a ram dumping attack, which is what you’re referring to. If the volume is unmounted and just sitting there in your hard drive it is virtually impossible to crack the key (without thousands, even millions of hours of processing time and millions of dollars worth of computer equipment to run it on). This assumes also that your have a strong password - for example, more than 20 random numbers and letters. From the TrueCrypt FAQ:

    “Unencrypted Data in RAM

It is important to note that TrueCrypt is disk encryption software, which encrypts only disks, not RAM (memory).

Keep in mind that most programs do not clear the memory area (buffers) in which they store unencrypted (portions of) files they load from a TrueCrypt volume. This means that after you exit such a program, unencrypted data it worked with may remain in memory (RAM) until the computer is turned off (and, according to some researchers, even for some time after the power is turned off). Also note that if you open a file stored on a TrueCrypt volume, for example, in a text editor and then force dismount on the TrueCrypt volume, then the file will remain unencrypted in the area of memory (RAM) used by (allocated to) the text editor. This applies to forced auto-dismount as well.

Inherently, unencrypted master keys have to be stored in RAM as well. ___When a TrueCrypt volume is dismounted, TrueCrypt erases its master keys (stored in RAM).___ When the computer is cleanly restarted (or cleanly shut down), all TrueCrypt volumes are automatically dismounted and, thus, all master keys stored in RAM are erased by the TrueCrypt driver. However, when the computer is reset (not cleanly restarted), when the system crashes, or when power supply is abruptly interrupted, the TrueCrypt driver stops running and therefore cannot erase any keys. ”

  25. Jimbo Jonas Brothers Says:

I think child pornography is disturbing, but banning text/art is an abomination and a restriction on freedom of speech. The reality: pedophilia and child lust exist, so someone needs to demonstrate it through art/fiction/non-fiction writing. This goes back to the importance of the bard in historical times - where do you go from here, when the people who pass on social history are silenced?

Get a fucking grip, and pull your dick of this whore, Microsoft.

We should have expected this from the richest corporation on our fucking planet, though. Money rules all.

  26. YOUR BUSINESS OF FUCKING NONE Says:

    >You don’t know what you’re talking about dude.
RIGHT. LIKE I SAID BEFORE, I KNOW NOTHING.
BUT I KNOW ENOUGH TO KNOW THAT YOU ARE:
    1) REGURGITATING WHAT SOME “FAQ” ON THE PRODUCT PAGE TELLS YOU
    2) REFERRING TO AN EASILY AND EFFORTLESS SEARCH ON GOOGLE, WIKIPEDIA, TL;DR ETC
    3) A MASSIVE FANBOY OF TRUECRYPT (WHAT THE FUCK.

IT REALLY MATTERS NOT WETHER YOU HAVE THE BOX POWERED OR NOT, ENCRYPTED PARTITIONS MOUNTED OR NOT. SINCE TRUECRYPT FAILS BY NOT ENCRYPTING EACH INDIVIDUAL SECTOR, YOUR ENCRYPTION WILL BE COMPRIMISED EVENTUALLY. ONE SECTOR WILL REVEAL THE REST. IT BASICALLY SAYS, “FUCK YO RAM NIGGA. DONT NOBODY NEED THAT SHIT.” THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN WITH SAY GBDE OR EVEN GELI. THE FEDS OR WHOEVER HAS BEEN ASSIGNED WITH CHIPPING AWAY AT YOUR SHIT ENCRYPTION HAVE ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD TO DO SO.

EVEN I GROW TIRED OF THIS USELESS DEBATE. (SOME FAG IS BOUND TO COMMENT

GO AHEAD, USE SOMETHING THAT YOU HAVE TO REFER TO A FAQ FOR, OR A FORUM FOR COMMUNITY SUPPORT. YOU SOUND LIKE YOU NEED THAT KIND OF REASSURANCE, HAND HOLDING, BABY STEP KINDA SHIT. WHEN IT FAILS YOU, CRY MORE TO TRUECRYPT, WHO WILL MOST LIKELY NOT GIVE A FLYING FUCK.

    NOR WILL I.

  30. some random guy Says:

    its easy…

“Hey, this anime girl is a thousand years old…and she is half a robot (inside only). But she likes like a 9 year old”

that trick already bypasses the ban itself lol

  31. some random guy Says:

    edit*

But she looks* like a 9 year old

  32. Narrator 1 Says:

Primula? I think Etna’s a better example of the ambiguity of the legislation being raised here.

  33. chosunator Says:

Why is the UN attention’s on Japan all of a sudden? Is it because the new head of the UN is a Korean, and Koreans will try to “stick it to the Japs” whenever possible? It would also explain the strange involvement of Microsoft and Yahoo; in Japan, IT-based industries have a stronger Korean presence than average.

  34. Hangmen Says:

Hey UNICEF, ever fancy pressuring the international community to ban stupidity and ignorance?

  35. Eath Says:

ho? Thats only Manga and anime… this things are not real, nobody is getting hurt to make this Movis or Pics. If you forbid somthing like this your hurt the Freedome of the Artist. Jeah its Art, even if theyre drawn naked children, its Art and its only Paint or Pixels. Maybe you could say that pics or movis like that make that humans begin to have sex with real children, but this person are weak and would do this also if they not seen such pics or movis. (sorry my english isnt perfect)

  36. Anonymous Says:

i think anime and manga lolicon things should be banned. someone could watch/read it and like it then start getting obsessed to the point of real acessing real child porn. in the papers there have been people who had fantasies and then done the real thing. heck some guy raped a 1yr old kid

  37. Mugi Says:

So with your saying, we should stop watching action movies because some may turn out muders watching them kill each other.

We should stop watching porn movies in general as all those who watch them will turn our to be rapist….
