Large number of seiyuu leave Haikyo

haikyoowata.jpgA large number of seiyuu have left the actor/seiyuu agency Tokyo Actor’s Consumer’s Cooperative Society (Haikyo) apparently as their profiles have all been removed, and among them are Yamadera Kouichi, Namikawa Daisuke, and Takashima Gara.

At least 17 people have left, and The reason for this is not known, but rumour is that they are going to form a new seiyuu agency with Morikawa Toshiyuki.

Most of the people that left aren’t very well known, but losing Yamadera, Namikawa and Takashima must be really painful for Haikyo.

And for a moment there, I thought the people who draw up and animate the “animu” would be the first to go. These were the guys who were working for just plain peanuts, right?

  2. Zepy Says:

Most seiyuu can’t even make enough money to pay the bills actually, and they have to work part-time in convenience stores and such, only a small percentage of people are actually able to make a living off just their seiyuu jobs.

And then the really successful ones like Yamadera get paid really well.

Though I don’t think this move is related to the pay that they get… i think.

I floated the same question to Morita when he was down here and he also admits that even though he does a lot of voice acting, the pay doesn’t reflect it so sometimes it’s hard to get by.

Haikyou’s losing Yamadera-san? Wow. That’s news to me. It’s pretty bad for Haikyou now, especially since it’s him and two other significant people along with some more people. Next thing you know, Minagawa Junko-san may leave too.

Oh and Morikawa-san is making a seiyuu agency too? Hope that turns out well. Don’t know if this is the first big agency. If not, I could have sworn that Nanba Keiichi-san is the president of one.

Yeah and as Zepy said, seiyuu don’t get paid enough and they probably have it worse than animators, though both are in horrible conditions. Many of them are forced to have a second jobs like music, but some seiyuu will say that singing is not their forte. (Kawasumi Ayako-san is the most well-known example that admits this.)
