The big boom in eroge following the release of the first visual novels Shizuku, Kizuato, and To Heart by Leaf (influenced by Otogirisou) in 1996 and 1997 really shows in the chart. And then followed by the nakige ancestors, ONE in 1998, Kana in 1999, and then Kanon in 2000.
Also, in comparison, I went to vgchartz and counted the total number of Japanese console game releases across all consoles for 2007 and there were only 360 games released for the year of 2007, proving that the eroge industry is indeed superior to normal games (!?)
This is of course ignoring the fact that a single title like Monster Hunter 2 for the PSP easily sells more than the total combined sales of the 549 eroge titles that were released in 2007.

Yeah well considering the typical budget of a console game vs. the typical eroge budget it’s not that much of a surprise

Seems to be that someone enjoys name-calling now.

Interesting that there was a small dip between 1983 and 1985…. guess it’s not perfect.
And Kana….. as in Kana: Little Sister ? That Kana ? I hope I’m wrong.

Yeah that’s Kana as in Kana: Little sister, is that bad…?

No, it isn’t…. I’m just surpised that Kana is bigger than I thought it was.
