Guess some things are universal. Well, 40 year old magazine, 24 year old anime, and by all account old. I think some anime viewers out there do prefer 'the deep', especially without the unncessary 'emo'. As to the anachronism department... that's the thing. Sure, they've swallowed it for edecades, but people do prefer different changes in storytelling, or something completely different from time to time. I guess it's also a reflection of the differences in generation... I do find it a fault that I don't appreciate DBZ myself, actually (though that doesn't mean I support a return to the past).
