… well that IS surprising.

OUCH! XD

I wonder if this has something to do with its unusual Sunday time slot during the stations “prime time”. There might be some very good reasons that TBS hasn’t aired an anime at that particular time and day since 1985’s Laserion.
April 29th, 2008 at 10:48 am
It’s just that there are a whole lot more children and families watching the family anime rather than the otaku watching Geass.
April 29th, 2008 at 10:50 am
Someone I know had tables of this for shows during Geass’s first run.
The numbers were similarly terrible.
Go figure.

never found Code Geass to be that greate, but even more ‘otakuish’ shows have higher rating then this, chech just Macross Frontier for once, twice the viewers.

“Surprising”? The second season is pretty much a train wreck.
Also, blaming the time slot doesn’t really carry much weight when it’s getting beaten by pretty much every single late-night show. It’s hard to see how Sunday afternoon could ever be a worse time slot than Thursday after midnight.

I noticed not every anime series that aired last week is on this list (& I’m referring to premiers, not repeats). What exactly does this list include & exclude?
April 29th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
I don’t really see how this is surprising. In fact, it’s probably a good thing that Code Geass R2 even made the list, because most anime captures a ridiculously small portion of Japan viewership. Code Geass R2 is the second season of a series that aired late-night for the first season, so for it to be at 1.4% seems pretty remarkable.
What I found surprising was the prominence of Toshokan Sensou at 3.1%, but the light novel was a surprise smash hit in Japan, I think, so it’s slightly less surprising when you consider that.

Anime that are on independent local UHF TV stations and on cable or satellite channels such as CS, CATV, and the BS channels NHK satellite and WOWOW are not included in the list.

Hey, I have an idea. Remember the “power of ero?”
Seriously: I’m surprised that the creators of otaku-esque animu hadn’t looked outside their bubbles yet. Or maybe they have and are keeping all the money whilst they complain about being robbed.
Some person over at “http://www.saveouranime.com/” forum stated how thieves and pirates have stolen too much from the anime industry. I guess one of the things they stole was said industry’s “obligation to do better” and “need to be more creative than doing below-the-belt cheap shots.”

Wut.
Dusty books beat Code geass?

Japan runs on i’s own time system.
Check out the time Soul Eater -Late Show- airs.
May 7th, 2008 at 8:20 am
Apparently ep 5 scored a 1.8%, the lowest out of all the anime that aired that week, except for a few reruns.
May 7th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
And some still fail to understand that even if the ratings tank, Code Geass was never about ratings (look at those for the first season) but all about DVDs and merchandising.
Moving the show to an untested Sunday afternoon programming block, even if it was meant to replace Saturday’s, can’t really help either.

Stuff like shippuuden gets nearly 5 times the viewership of R2… I hope this doesn’t adversely affect the amount of quality series in the future.
