spike niconico channel launched

damnit.jpgNiconico douga has announced today that they are starting a new video service called spike niconico channel which will be for games that are being distributed by spike in Japan. It currently has trailers games such as Bioshock and Tomb Raider, and they hope to expand to have gameplay videos and interviews.

Now I’m sure it’s completely unrelated but on the same day, niconico has started deleting tons of gameplay videos of Nintendo-owned games due to “requests from the copyright holder” such as the videos of people playing modified versions of Mario and Pokemon, and the videos of fully automatic Mario which had been pretty popular, and especially the recent one of the gumi kyoku. (it’s still up on youtube)

As a result of the deletions, the total number of videos viewed across all videos in niconico douga has dropped by 20 million views today.

I don’t know if it’s just Nintendo or if they’re planning to eventually remove all gameplay videos from the site, but this sucks.

Also, on further looking, they’ve hit almost all of KAS’s playthrough videos.
VIP Mario seems to sort of be intact though.
Considering I’ve already been dinged by random Japanese lawyers (mistakenly, but the burden of proof was on me) on Youtube coyprights, it’s highly possible they’ll ask Youtube to remove Mario vids also?

No surprise here. Nintendo of Japan is super-pissy about that sort of thing and has pulled similar shit in the past.

    That’s evil.

Welp, time for me to start downloading those Automatic Mario vids on Youtube.

Good job, Nintendo. I’m sure your loyal customers appreciate what amounts to zero loss in sales on your part and only free promotion otherwise.

Nintendo also has a history of zero-tolerance in regards to doujinshi, so I’m really not surprised.

But some people are re-uploading some now. Probably they will deleted them soon…
I remember when Niconico was really cool, with full anime series and I also liked watching Gamecenter CX. I understand why they delete all the series, but now Niconico is a little boring… (I don’t understand why the “gay/aniki” videos are so popular).
Well, there is always a good Touhou, Vocaloid or Im@s video every now and then…

Yeah, I agree about nico getting more boring since the copyright holders decided to come down on it. The days of gamma testing seem so nostalgic now… sigh

Wow, and I watched the mario kumikyoku just yesterday, too… (inb4 slowpoke.jpg)

    Copyright holders, boo.

Are the Mario sequencer videos included in those that were taken out? If so… bummer, I loved those. :(
