Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu new animation
Pics from Newtype
The reason why they cancelled 2nd season and started “Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu new animation” instead was because they felt that they couldn’t just do a 2nd season and that they wanted to do a completely new “Haruhi” again. They’re still deciding on the concept for the new anime and how it’ll be like and having meetings for how the story will go.
It’s still probably going to be about disappearance, with those character designs that are shown.
June 6th, 2008 at 8:01 am
hmm, and what does it say? :D
shes looks nice with these long hairs
June 6th, 2008 at 8:19 am
“Did you have enough time, Supreme Dictator of Animu?”
June 6th, 2008 at 8:21 am
ah now there is some infos ;)
when was it canceled? :o any eta on when this “new animation” will come? :s
June 6th, 2008 at 8:33 am
They announced that they were cancelling 2nd season and starting new animation back on the 18th of december during that disappearance event on the official website.
No date announced yet, but… I have a feeling it’ll be 2009. They’ll probably announce something on the 7th of July i think.
June 6th, 2008 at 8:42 am
ok, thank you
June 6th, 2008 at 8:46 am
If they are just doing this to lose the “2nd Season” tag then I’m fine with it. Just don’t go betraying the novels now…
June 6th, 2008 at 9:07 am
“I still have enough time, comrade general of Anime.”
~
Well, at least they’re doing “something”.
And, as much as I hate to say it, I am resigned to believe that the first season of Haruhi Suzumiya was always the best, especially if it was the only season made.
June 6th, 2008 at 9:33 am
They’re going to betray the novels and it’s going to fail.
Goodbye, Haruhi. It was fun while it lasted.
Now where THE FUCK is Vol. 10?
June 6th, 2008 at 9:40 am
My guess is that they had already started production of the 2nd season but decided to scrap the whole thing due to internal issues. Remember, some staff members who worked on the first Haruhi left Kyoto at some point.
I guess now we just have to wait and see.
June 6th, 2008 at 10:38 am
@BlackAdder & Kaisos: TAKE IT EASY!
June 6th, 2008 at 11:04 am
1. suzumiya haruhi no yuutsu 2 never existed
2. read the novels
3. ???
4. enjoy the 2nd series :)
June 6th, 2008 at 7:14 pm
What’s wrong with having a little original material?
June 6th, 2008 at 8:04 pm
@Hito: KyoAni are really bad writers. It shows whenever they add original material to one of their productions. The Lone Island episodes, Clannad 18, etc.
Of course, if they get Shoji Gato, or, say, Nagaru Tanigawa himself to write the episodes, that’s a different story.
June 6th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
Kaisos? Are you the writer for Seitenkan?
And, I’m looking forward to this, at the moment.
June 6th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
Yes, yes I am one of the writers. Why?
June 7th, 2008 at 1:26 am
Kaisos, he actually did write all anime original episodes, which was 1. The others were in the novels, island arc included.
Also, I think Kyoani does a decent job on original episodes, there are others who have done a far worse job, naruto being the most obvious, of course.
June 7th, 2008 at 1:35 am
Well, it’s not that the anime is being cancelled, of course…..
It’s just that the title screen won’t be bouken desho desho anymore.
(thought I found this post misleading)
June 7th, 2008 at 4:05 am
Well, I hope that in this new animation, they make the whole KyonxHaruhi part more intimate!
June 7th, 2008 at 8:16 am
Hito: “What’s wrong with having a little original material?”
“Original Material” is not really the problem. Japan’s cultural “weak sauce” trying to make it big in the US is. Ask Geneon about where the “niche market” ideal will get you.
Kaisos: “KyoAni are really bad writers. It shows whenever they add original material to one of their productions. The Lone Island episodes, Clannad 18, etc.”
Clannad featured poor Youhei Sunahara getting his butt handed to him by Tomoyo; with no chance of winning what-so-ever.
So it doesn’t matter if the vocal KyotoAnime fans eat this up. This is beyond “bad writing” territory and into “needing to stay the hell away from creating anime” territory.
June 7th, 2008 at 8:32 am
I was wondering when the demoraliztion fags will show up here…
June 7th, 2008 at 9:22 am
Tyrenol, srsly, it sounds more like whine than criticism.
June 7th, 2008 at 10:58 am
@Tyrenol: I was referring to how they got Nagisa back in the picture and the twins and Tomoyo out of it in Clannad 18, not Sunohara’s bad luck, something that was in the game anyway.
June 7th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
Well just from reading some of these it sounds like the people that made Haruhi are trying to reinvent her. Someone may of given some idea’s to make it better maybe or something didn’t work out. Guess well just have to wait and see coming Dec hopefully they don’t delay the series to next spring my bones will be half ashes by then.
June 7th, 2008 at 3:39 pm
People. I’m gonna have to say that this information is almost definitely a reference to the fourth book in the series, “The Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi.” A lot of those pictures are scenes adapted straight from the book.
June 7th, 2008 at 3:39 pm
Geez.. this is unfair.. i wanted more Haruhi for this year.. oh wellz. But hows that they r re-creating haruhi?, dont tell me they r going to do the same as Sakura Card Captors.. that they made another story in Tsubasa Chronicles. That will really piss me off.. Haruhi is one, why change her?
June 7th, 2008 at 4:34 pm
Cute! Love the new long hair Haruhi has.
June 7th, 2008 at 5:59 pm
Kaisos: Then the blame goes to Key. “Creating somebody to beat up for comic relief” does not “a great creator” make. Sure it helps you blow off steam, but it gets depressing after a while.
And about Haruhi; what’s up with all those setbacks? What exactly is going on over at KyotoAnimu (besides the people leaving and the unions forming)? Pretty soon it’ll be just like Code Geass R2; right in the bottom of the ratings list, because people will be sick of her by now.
What are they gonna do? Have Kyon punch Haruhi square in the face? Feature “gender-bender” and introduce Kyonko?
June 7th, 2008 at 7:30 pm
“They’re still deciding on the concept for the new anime and how it’ll be like and having meetings for how the story will go.”
The above would in normal circumstances be pretty depressing, since it hints that KyoAni are planning on betraying the light novels. However, remember the way that the first series of Haruhi was written. The contents of each novel volume alternate between one long story and several short stories. In order to be able to adapt more of the original novel series, the first Haruhi series consisted of a main six part plot, and eight episodes based off of the short stories (well, most of them anyway). The second series will most likely be written the same way, especially considering that they did not adapt the Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody short into the first series (that story has quite a bit of relevance to the Disappearance arc, which, judging by past information and the pictures provided, is going to be the main plot of this series).
So, you guys probably don’t need to worry much. =D By that, they probably mean that they are simply planning which short stories to adapt into the series, what order to air the episodes in, etc.
June 7th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
Hey, Zepy, where did you get the info about canceled second season ? There is no even the word about it in article titles. Can you show the proof, please ?
June 7th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
@Tyrenol: Sunohara has his moments other than a punchbag in the game, notably in his own route and Kyou’s. Even the anime had his more serious moments in Fuuko’s and Nagisa’s routes. Also, note that Sunohara is a douche most of the time and deserves a lot of what happens to him.
@Niishy: I’d assume 2ch, but…
June 8th, 2008 at 12:02 am
>Niishy
Here, and here
June 8th, 2008 at 2:49 am
Man if this isn’t The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya then I don’t know what’s wrong with the guys from KyoAni. The concept art CLEARLY shows it.
June 8th, 2008 at 3:01 am
Hmm, I don’t even know if most of that still is concept art, seems more like finished products of artwork.
June 8th, 2008 at 6:37 am
Meh, if Tyrenol doesn’t like it, he doesn’t like it. He entitled to his opinion.
Though I seriously consider the writing for the series to be better than that for the KEY games…. but the setbacks do have me a bit worried. And they (technically) improved on the novel in some parts.
June 8th, 2008 at 7:25 am
my goodness! the ignorance!!!
look dude, the 2nd season is NOT canceled, but it has “disappeared”
what do i mean? go to baka tsuki and look at their translation project of the Haruhi novels
June 8th, 2008 at 8:39 am
>shaoron
You’ve probably misread somewhere
June 8th, 2008 at 8:54 am
Kaisos: I know Youhei is a douche. But what he had gotten for it was way too much. In fact; he appeared as “a retard who’s a victim of bullying” more than he did as “a douche.”
I guess that nobody saw that Batman movie with The Riddler and Two-Face: “He won’t learn his lesson if you kill him.” Tomoyo and Ryou ended up being invincible super-b####es in my eyes. Plus I ended up hating Tomoya, then KyotoAnimu and Key in general.
Shaoron: This is not just some rap CD by some beef-causing rap artist. This is a series that could’ve been done by, say, millions of people. (Most of them probably underpaid.)
I don’t like Haruhi and the ruckus surrounding her. But I hate it even more when companies (especially those that need to burn to the ground) play hard-to-get with certain, popular titles.
June 8th, 2008 at 9:44 am
@Zepy & Tyrenol about Shaoron
Shaoron was just being sarcastic with the comment. The whole thing is really just soem marketing ploy that plays on the whole theme of the ‘disappearance’ of the girl. She never did disappear, but the anime would treat it like as if she would. You know, as in a different world with a different series to itself (so some episodes may have the bouken deshod esho)
It’s kinda complicated…. I don’t like the ‘mindless’ ruckus when it comes to Haruhi, but I do like some of the more thoughtful ones.
However, as Tyrenol said, theya re playing ‘too’ hrad to get. If they could just say that their ‘new’ anime was really a second season that, being based on a ‘disappearance’ of Haruhi, had some episodes with a different opening and a different style (like a diffferent theme song and Haruhi in an elite school), then fine.
Could ‘anybody’ do Haruhi ? That’s a very subjectvie term. That’s like saying Rahxephon could have been done by anyone… which is true. Rahxephon, whether one likes it or not, is a big Evangelion rip-off…. it’s just sttudio Bones pulled off something better then that particualr anime.
There HAVE been other similar Haruhi-like stories… but they all lack a certain actor, or round up being too harem-ish, too technical, or what-not. Perhaps someday, I should compile them, and see what is it they didn’t have that.
But I dispute the idea that Haruhi may be ‘run-of-the-mill’ per se. The story had a charm to it that was a mix of two series by aBe Yoshito, and, wtih aBe being absent, this is the closest thing for now.
That being said, I feel that Haruhiists, Haruhi fans and anime fans who like Haruhi will all have to question themselves and consider whether the ruckus going on about Miss SUzumiya should be as big as it currently is. No doubt there will be those like Tyrenol, and they have very valid points.
But there will also be those who do genuinely like the series for its merits, and can prove that the series does warrant at least some of it.
I am going with the latter camp. And, with that being said, polarising as this series may be, both poles have to accept each other’s differeing views obn the subject.
June 8th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
Please, please. For the love of god. Let all of this blatant disregard of the obvious be some sort of crazy viral marketing. I can’t assume this though, because this is the internet.
June 8th, 2008 at 11:43 pm
@VentcoreFrog:
So what are you trying to say here, exactly?
June 9th, 2008 at 6:12 pm
Hmm.. R.I.P. Haruhi ?? OMFG T_T
June 9th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
@VentcoreFrog
What is that supposed to mean?
June 9th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
asi no se vale csm, la U es la U !!
June 10th, 2008 at 9:00 am
I think there is a big chance this could be a prank, like the website last year.
If they are “pretending” the first season never happened then that would go along with her disappearance. So the show will start without Haruhi, then Yuki will show up and say something is wrong, etc and then it will roll forward from there. They will probably go the Tenchi in Tokyo rout where it feels like a sequel for most of the show then you get some backstory and see it is slightly different the the version you know.
I say it is a trick. They want the series to stand alone but it will technically be a sequel.
I hope anyway.
June 10th, 2008 at 9:31 am
@Lonecow
I’ve been thinking about that as well. Based on the novels, if they say that they are going to “remake” the 1st season, it really goes well with the story of the Disappearance. Though I’m not really sure of it..
I hope that this is what they are plotting. O_O
June 11th, 2008 at 11:06 am
@Lonecow and shadowlurker
You two seem to be the only ones whoa re getting the answer right….
It’s bnot so much a ‘new series’ as it is a portrayal of events where Haruhi never existed… at least as we know her. So it’s cancelled and not cancelled.
I’d love o see how KyoAni will pull this off.
June 12th, 2008 at 6:04 pm
du Haruhi mais nu Kyon nee ronaldo pondrais Robinho du Kaka´
June 13th, 2008 at 3:12 am
I’m not surprised that they are making an entirely different series of Haruhi Suzumiya. I’ve watched the first season and no doubt it’s interesting but the episodes do not have a fixed order. I think that’s the reason why it’s hard to make a sequel for it since the last episode can be different.
Anyway, I still think it’s a good thing to have another series of Haruhi Suzumiya. ^^
June 13th, 2008 at 4:24 am
@ Shoukei
Actually, Season 2 is not so much a ‘new series’, as it is a reinterpretation of the Disappearance arc to portray season 2 as a new series where Haruhi wasn’t at north high.
Also, it’s more likely they’ll retain the same haphazard episode order, because they’re also covering the time when Kyon went back to meet the young Haruhi.
June 21st, 2008 at 9:53 pm
I wanna have some sex with Kyon
June 22nd, 2008 at 3:40 pm
If Haruhi is not going to be in the early part of the show, I wonder how are they going to explain the Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody. Well, another anachronic order?
Erm, what the title would be then? SH no Shoshitsu? If that so, the title itself would be a major spoiler, I think.
Just hoping that KyoAni will do their best to keep the world revolving around Haruhi, at least for me. XD
June 24th, 2008 at 3:40 pm
I thought that the second season wasnt cancelled. On so many sites I saw that it is being created at this moment. >_> Not to mention TyokoPop had released a picture of Haruhi in the ‘Disapperance’ and actual audio of Kyon and Haruhi talking during the Disapperance.
July 9th, 2008 at 7:05 pm
IM sooooooooooooooooooooooo confused??????????
i hate my life T_T
July 15th, 2008 at 6:30 am
hmmmmm…..as far as I know about it, maybe the season 2 episodes may include some incidents three years ago…….
And you notice Haruhi at the first time Kyon and she had a very first conversation, she asks Kyon if she had met her before… I think that would be season 2 starts off where Kyon actually timewarps with Mikuru three years ago when Haruhi is in her elementary days……
Corect me if I’m wrong……

THIS IS SPARTA
September 1st, 2008 at 2:20 pm
A lot of you guys seem completely confused, and the original article is actually slightly off as well. So I’m here to clarify!
The only thing that is holding up the “second season” is the fact that there have been alterations to the character designs by head illustrator Noizi Ito. This is also the reason the 10th book was held up as well.
In order to conform to the illustrations of the 10th book, KyoAni decided to incorporate the altered character designs into the anime and kind of start from scratch. There have been no conceptual meetings about where to take the story as th original article suggests. Instead, what is meant by “new animation” is simply that KyoAni has decided to essentially remake the first season with the new character designs - this will be called “The Prologue of Haruhi Suzumiya”. This new animation of the first season will also include footage that was never shown in the original animation. The “second season” will then follow the “prologue of haruhi suzumiya”. This “second season” will be based entirely on the fourth book, the “disappearance of haruhi suzumiya”.
There will be no deviations from the book at all. My guess is that they’re making this a 24-26 episode “season”. First, the “remake” (new animation) of the first season will air, then the second season will follow.
The article in the July 2008 Newtype states that fans can look forward to a “Early 2009″ release, and that all of Noizi Ito’s new character designs will be revealed in the December 2008 issue of Japan’s Newtype.
To clarify, ONLY THE CHARACTER DESIGNS WILL CHANGE! The original stories of the novels - both “melancholy” and “disappearance” - will stay exactly the same.
That is the most accurate translation of the original article that I can give you.
September 1st, 2008 at 10:05 pm
I thank you lllwtflll. I’ve been scouring the internet for days trying to find all the info you’ve scrunched into those few paragraphs.
Still…makes me sad that it’s still so far off. Gotta wait even longer for the sub/dub…
September 14th, 2008 at 4:59 pm
I agree with tydygunn, I’ve been lookin for this kinda good intel for a while, thanks a million + 1 lllwtflll
September 15th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
But the best part about Haruhi is the character designs.
September 16th, 2008 at 1:38 am
WHAT THE FLYING FUCK…..
That is one HELL of a rumour to generate. And heck, Zepy himself referenced it here:
http://zepy.momotato.com/2008/09/15/yoshinari-festival/#comment-15452
Dudes, please… why would they want to remake something, that was already good and still young ?
September 16th, 2008 at 8:32 am
>Blackadder: “Dudes, please… why would they want to remake something, that was already good and still young ?”
Because it seems to be an unwritten rule now:
1: You “have the monkey.”
2: It transforms into a problematic but entertaining gorilla.
3: Create S&M Parlors based on gorilla.
4: [Censored] PROFIT [Censored]!!
October 1st, 2008 at 2:34 pm
Maybe it’s because of the whole not chronological order thing the first season had. Maybe they’re just going to do them in order this time becuase they can’t exactly carry the gimmick over to the next season nor can they start the second season next to the first one without it because then it will be too confusing. That seems the most logical reason that ISN’T profit although that probably is a factor :P.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:55 am
18th of December. Oh and yuki will smile and BLUSHH!!!
October 25th, 2008 at 11:26 pm
Well, being confused and such, it doesn’t matter to me if this’ll be named “Second season” or a whole new title.
But what does matter to me, is that they continue the Haruhi anime series.
After watching “The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya” and reading some of the light novels only a few days ago, I’m mega obsessed.
It’d be a shame if there wasn’t another “season” or continuation.
But, seeing Haruhi in that picture in the other High-school uniform? There is a very very high chance it’s going to happen.
Not to mention I want to see some Yuki x Kyon action going on.
(With her smiling at him and all.)
November 9th, 2008 at 6:50 pm
I stumbled into Anime by watching one of those Japanese mash-up videos. I did some research a found Air and Lucky Star. I don’t want to sound like a freak, but the day I found Suzumiya Haruhi was one of the best days of my life. Then I found out about the novels, and have been reading them ever since.
I really do want more, and I honestly don’t care whats going on or what they are telling us, as long as there is progress.
If they were not doing anything, I would despair, but as long as there is even a tiny something, there is hope.
January 2nd, 2009 at 12:01 am
hey guys im gonna have to sit this one out
January 7th, 2009 at 10:46 pm
Hmm why they have to make new haruhi animation??what happen to the melancholy??and why disappearance will be the title??
January 13th, 2009 at 7:27 pm
I hope they stick to the novles. I loved it so, reading it drove me crazy in love with the series even more. I’ve been waiting.
I really really want it to come out soon, I need my Haruhi fix. For those who have also been Misslead, Haruhi does NOT grow out her hair. Hehe :> Just ganna have to find out who that is now, hm?
