Lucky Star’s economic impact on Washimiya town

hatune.jpgThe Yomiuri newspaper reports that the economic impact of the Lucky Star stuff in Washimiya town from Dec 07 to May 08 was 41.7 million yen (US$400,000). At the same time, Satte city also reports an economic impact of 25 million yen (US$230,000) from Lucky Star over the same period.

The Washinomiya shrine in Washimiya was featured in Lucky Star, which caused an influx of fans to visit the shrine last year. Washimiya has then been capitalizing on this by holding Lucky Star events and selling Lucky Star goods. A record number of 300,000 visitors to the shrine was also recorded over the new year.

Hmmm… if some saw the Akihabara murder as a reason against otakun, businessmen would see the abvoe example as a reason FOR otakun. And basically all dumb moe anime.

Then again, lets see how long this lasts (to REALLY see if it’s a passing fad)

    It’s not yet the end.

Actually, Lucky Star characters were also used in whoring/escort services. So much for the eco-boom. No wonder Japan’s so desperate.
