Young Magazine editor criticizes recent seiyuu

nothirano.jpgFrom vol. 29 of Young Magazine, one of the editors comment that he feels that some recent seiyuu have been becoming arrogant, talking on and on TV about the feelings of the character that they’re voicing and the character’s background, as if the seiyuu is the original author of the story.

He doesn’t name anybody but he says that the person that he saw spoke of the character in such a way that it made him want to say “you didn’t create this character did you?”, and it makes him hope that only the seiyuu that hold the mindset that they’re “given the role” will be successful.

Young Magazine manga that have been animated recently are Kaiji, Minamike, and xxxHolic. And the most recent TV appearance by a seiyuu is Hirano Aya on Top Runner two weeks ago.

Well, no good will come of this.

I hop this wasn’t an attack on Hirano because I do like her work. I think the editor isn’t taking the seiyuu’s skill as actors into account though. It is one thing if the seiyuu in question says something like ‘That character would never do that and criticize the creator but I do not think that is what the case si here.

I think the editor is full of it. He’s probably jealous that the seiyuu can understand the emotions and background of a character more than he can.

  3. TYRENOL LIVES AGAIN!! Says:

The arrogant bastards need to be smacked down.

And for a moment there I thougth that Japan was filled with weak, spineless people.

  4. NONE OF YOUR FUCKING BUSINESS Says:

    THE END C(ry

Okay…. that was funny because I do know how Aya Hirano babbled like as though she owned Chiko of 20 Mensou Musume in Top Runner, but it really was more like the basic 101 and sorts. Nothing really getting mad over. Unless the other seiyuus were talking in that spirit about that character, then that brings it down to her right? lololol.

lol. Funny though is how he’s not alone in this sentiment. Quite a number of Japanese are miffed with her.

Meh, I think these people are just jealous twats. Sure, a seiyuu can’t have created the character but if it’s a main role I’d expect them to know and feel the character inside out before acting them! Does this stupid editor (and all the other jealous fans) think that seiyuu should just manufacture a voice every time and be detached from the feelings of the character? (And anyway if they’re being asked about what the character would feel like does he expect them not to answer?)

Huh, I’d say this magazine editor is the one who is 調子に乗ってる。

  8. Moogy Says:

    lol hirano

  9. uinreli Says:

Maybe they should make him listen to the US voices for Chaos Wars as an example of superior QUALITY.

  10. Espr Says:

    Uinreli has a point.
He should listen to what voice actors who DON’T get into their character sound like, but Chaos Wars is just criminal man…

  11. DrmChsr0 Says:

So seiyuu aren’t allowed to get into character now?

That’s just like saying actors and actresses can’t get into character :P

  12. Tyrenol Says:

    Untrue, DrmChsr0.

It’s not like the seiyuu shouldn’t be in-character. It’s that they shouldn’t be 50 Cent (who’s currently acting like he needs to get shot up). We already have one 50 Cent and the last thing we need, messing up everyone’s favorite animu, are mini-Fifties running around.

  13. Mauru Says:

I don’t like Aya Hirano too, she thinks so highly of herself as a seiyuu even so Yuko Goto has more roles than her and she only gets roles because she is pretty, she had never gone to seiyuu school and her normal voice is nasal and annoying, you can notice that nasal voice in all her characters, she has some talent but not that much of a talent, with a voice like that she won’t go far.

  14. Mauru Says:

and not to mention the great amount of “pillow bussiness” in the seiyuu industry and aya hirano’s beauty but not vocal beauty.

  15. Raiden Says:

I don’t like Hirano but, Mauru are you 12 years old? You don’t like her so you make up shit, typical. If you got prove, post it.
