Nico Douga to remove fanmade anime videos

tegakimodamekayoCNET Japan reports that Nico Nico Douga has come to an agreement with The Association of Japanese Animations (AJA), Japan Video Software Association (JVA), and Motion Picture Producers Association of Japan (MPPA) to remove vids that are in violation of copyright belonging to members of these organizations.

This includes all fan made videos that violate the copyrights of members of these organizations. They will start deleting all existing videos that are in violation and will monitor all newly uploaded videos for violations.

AJA is made up of 34 full members and 22 associate members comprising of anime studios such as Gonzo, Sunrise, and Studio Ghibli. JVA has 35 members including Walt Disney Japan, Kadokawa Shoten, Sony Pictures Entertainment, and MPPA is made up of 4 members consisting of Shochiku, Toho, Toei, and Kadokawa Eiga.

I guess that means Nico douga is only going to be left with Touhou, Idolmaster, Vocaloid, people dancing and singing, and game vids.

“Come into agreement” sounds too politically correct. I’d say “bullied”.

  2. df Says:

agreement is one thing, execution is another.
I would love to see Nico Douga “fail to fully comply the rules”.

  3. Outlawed Says:

  14. Insert_name Says:

So does that mean that wholly fan-made videos with copyrighted characters (i.e. the Caramelldansen stuff) is subject to being stripped down, or is it just things like MADs?

  15. Hirvine Says:

eh? why, I never understand them. I always like the fanmade movies, their the greatest (and free) commercials ever. They are wasting a market! The heck? Do they want us to buy blindfolded? … Hope the fan-made videos survives. @Mugi, another one fully agrees.

  16. wildarmsheero Says:

HOW WILL I WATCH MAD MOVIES

  17. Anath Says:

    > Where’s the screencap from?

Screencap is from a parody of the third OP of Pani Poni Dash!, with Ilya from F/SN in it.

  18. bluemist Says:

Uh huh, whatever happened to Nico Nico Douga being the 2ch of video?

  19. Cardcaptor Says:

I don’t know how far they want to take this actually, but hand drawn OP parodies like the Pani Poni Dash one that I used as the pic for the post have already been deleted before the announcement.

  21. Barachem Says:

    Hurray for copyright enforcement!!!!!!!!!!
I’m ready to go for the 3D spectacular Big Brother experience.
    When will it happen?!

  22. math4origami Says:

I agree with Hirvine. Nico nico isn’t making any money on the videos and fanmade movies are never things that detract from the real products. The movies definitely make more people watch the shows than reduce them. As long as actual episodes arn’t put up, then its all good for both consumer and producer.

  23. keron Says:

oh well i knew it wouldn’t last. it seems the’re serious on removing all licensed anime,AMVs and fansubs which is a good thing. it’ll prevent some good companies from going belly hop like geneon.

  24. Anon Says:

I’d kill for a larger version of that Ilya picture or the actual link to the parody thing

  25. jakuniku kyoushoku Says:

Geneon went bust because of poor business decisions and over-extending themselves, not because of some shitty AMVs.

And if a company is so clusterfuck mismanaged that something as simple as AMVs can kill it, then it deserves to die ASAP.

  26. Anonymous Says:

    FUCK SHIT CUNTS
    dammit japan!

  27. Hangmen Says:

    INTERNET’S CLOSED DUE TO RAIDS.

  28. Sparky Says:

    OH SHI-

    Think Youtube’s gonna follow suit?

If this shit keeps up, I’m gonna have to torrent everything I watch, and lemme tell you it’s a pain in the ass

  29. Darc Says:

This stinks, Well geneon kind of had their own problems. I wonder why Nico caved like that. this is going to make it harder for me to find new things to watch. i find out about most of the Anime’s i watch through friends or through AMVs.

over all, this is just sad that some companies have to do this to save themselves.

  30. Chuck Says:

Nico has ALWAYS caved like a little bitch from day one. This is nothing new. The slightest complaint and POOF!

  31. Shii Says:

The obvious thing to do now is to create a NicoNico clone in FINLAND that allows all sorts of movies.

To attract maximum coverage, it should have a moé mascot.

    Are you taking notes?
