He had already received a tip a few months back that Bones was getting ready to have a big announcement near the end of the year on a new Full Metal Alchemist anime that would follow the original manga. He was waiting for the right time when it was okay to post about the news but didn’t expect to get beaten to the news by another source.

I think it’s more a remake of FMA anime than a “FMA2″ since it would now follow the original book.

Remaking FMA sounds like a colossal waste of time since the original series didn’t really deviate much from the manga plot until ep 26 or 27. But it’s going to be really lame if they announce a “What if…” scenario to cover their collective ass on the movie ending.
“WHAT IF THERE ARE TWO HOHENHEIM. HUH? HOW YOU LIKE THEM APPLES?”

But the differences after those episodes are huuuuge. I think it’s more likely for them to just completely start over than to pose some ridiculous “what if” and consider both stories true in one fictional world.

I thought in regards to Haruhi Season 2, it was stated that they are going to reboot the franchise instead of trying to follow the novels.
Or was that just a nasty rumor?

It’s not explicitly stated yet, but they’re probably still following the novels. Rebooting the franchise and stuff sounds like somebody might have misinterpreted what was being said, basically they said they rebooted the season 2 project, not the entire storyline itself.
