10 injured as escalator fails in Wonderfest

comikeowata47news is reporting that 50 people tumbled when an upward moving escalator broke down at Tokyo Big Sight during Wonderfest at approximately 10am today. 10 people were injured and amongst them one was seriously injured with a fracture.

Giganews has a more detailed first hand report of the scene with photos and videos, including one which shows the upward moving escalator moving in the opposite direction for an instant as it breaks before it actually stops.

Comiket is only two weeks away now, I hope it’s not going to be affected by this incident…

Just the kind of Publicity Wonderfest needed…

As if they even turn on the escalators at CM. Usually it’s all turned off.

Oh, what I mean by the comment is referring to how Comiket is always at risk of being shut down so it might become a reason to cancel the event due to safety issues.

Though, this is the west hall escalator, and it’s usually moving and in use during Comiket. The first groups of people coming in after Comiket starts will use the stairs, but everyone after will usually use the escalator to get up in west hall.
