801-chan anime cancelled?
The Misonobashi 801 Shopping Center’s official blog had written that they had been informed that the 801-chan anime which was supposed to be animated by Kyoto Animation had been cancelled. The blog post about this has since then been deleted from the site.
The official site for the 801-chan anime which was put up a little more than a week ago has now been deleted from the TBS website, and the announcement about the anime has also been deleted from the manga’s official site.
It has only been less than 2 weeks since they announced at the TBS anime festa that Kyoto Animation was working on the anime, I can’t imagine what could have happened in that short period of time. The strap on the 3rd vol of the manga that was released last month still has the announcement that an anime is in progress too…

Fujoshi are some of the most uptight, clique-ish panties-in-a-bunch sort I’ve ever met - I wouldn’t put it past some of them to bombard letters saying “stop exposing what we do!” I mean they’re the sort of jerks who insist on their sites not being linked to on the fucking WWW of all places, because they want to “avoid being searchable by the companies and general public”.
Except they obviously didn’t do that here because the manga would’ve disappeared otherwise. I’d love to know what happened though.

Bullshit, but I suppose this is the sort of reaction that is expected from 2chan people. The fujoshi I know are mostly incredibly nice people (and panties-in-a-bunch wise not any worse than other otaku), who would laugh at the idea of trying to stop 801-chan’s production. Besides it’s not like this would be the first anime liek evar to feature yaoi fangirls and whatnot.
As for not allowing links - it’s not only fujoshi who do this, and besides, with the amount of fanboy hatred against them, who the fuck would want to be easily found?

what the hell? And I was looking forward to this, too. Hope you can tell us more about what happened when more info is posted.

Maybe someone from Kadokawa Shoten leaned on Kyoto Ani to hasten up production on Haruhi 2?
August 28th, 2008 at 7:55 am
I’m perplexed.
On the bright side, Haruhi may turn up faster.
On the down side, and I must admit…. we need more yaoi anime. No seriously.
KyoAni was willing to make something for the fujoshi crowd. Honestly, I’m sick of having to see moe and harem all the time (though I don’t completely hate it.)
I can imagine all the fujoshi haters who’d be happy aboiut this.

I thought “Antique Bakery’s” pretty good.
But if what Hahaha said is true about the militancy of yaoi fangirls, just imagine how many more animu creators would be on the ball if they seriously have to worry about militancy in animu fandom in general. No more having to use the “u” to replace the “e” out of disgust for the whole industry.
Me too. I’m sick of seeing (horribly done, anti-man) moe and harem as well. As a matter of fact; I’d like to see anime where boys and girls, men and women get together and have adventures without it being turned into some semi-orgy of near-sex by the inner-industry otaku-tachi and the #channers.
And finally: KyotoAnimu. They treat their guys like crap. Of course the militant yaoi fangirls wouldn’t stay silent about it.

Fandom reaction to fujoshi has generally been mixed. Some dearly welcome fujoshi, either as representative of a new moe element to fawn over, or conversely as an honest female perspective in a largely male-dominated fandom. Others utterly despise fujoshi, either by rejecting them as an inherently anti-moe element, or as social failures that shame women. It’s not a simple matter for both the supporters and detractors. I know that fans these days just love to judge everything in terms of moe and not-moe, but this is _not_ just a simple moe/not-moe situation. Fujoshi are real people, and real people aren’t cartoons.
Fujoshi as a recognized distinct otaku subculture is relatively new phenomena, so any generalized blanket statements right now are quite frankly useless. This is the time to make passive observations and limited hypotheses, not the time to jump to conclusions and proclaim baseless judgment. Actual familiarity with, you know, _real_ Japanese social roles would help a lot, too (cartoons don’t count).
> who the fuck would want to be easily found?
Precisely. For the fujoshi, it can be argued that keeping a low profile while still maintaining some sort of presence is actually a perfectly sensible thing to do right now. It’s easy to know how to react when you’re either generally hated or generally loved, and that only comes with the slow passage of time. When things are new and vague and your social role is yet undefined, then I think it’s quite understandable that many fujoshi would prefer to minimize their visibility (which is very different than eliminating it completely) until their image stabilizes a bit.

And you sir, are a cliche.

People who say fujoshi are militant probably haven’t seen the intense flak they can get from some otaku (the 腐動画削除対象/project for the deletion of yaoi videos threads on 2ch are a case in point).
Instead of slamming fujoshis for being publicity-shy, maybe it would be worthwhile to consider why so many feel constrained to act in that way. The fact that anyone who doesn’t use masculine pronouns on Nicovideo is inviting trouble might have something to do with it.
August 28th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
You’d think male otaku would welcome the presence of females but then again they’re probably afraid of them and/or their heart belongs to rei-chan.

: back to the actual topic of 801-chan
Well, we don’t know yet if this cancellation is due to anti-fujoshi pressure or not, or even if the cancellation is final. There are plenty of other possible factors; the anime industry is going through some rather interesting times right now.
: and away again, to the topic of otaku
Fans who take the hobby waaaay too seriously often end up treating “different” fans like dirt. It’s similar to the psychological mindset that makes Protestants and Catholics kill each other, even though they’re both Christians.
