Tonari no 801-chan anime officially cancelled
An official statement has been released on the TBS anime festa official site that the Tonari no 801-chan anime has been cancelled for undisclosed reasons. They could have just switched production studios if it was a problem on Kyoani’s end, I guess it’s a problem on TBS’s side…?

Stop crying and moaning about how no one’s making the stories you want. Stop blaming the studios, stop blaming other fans, stop blaming Japan, stop blaming America, above all stop blaming everyone else. Instead, start _making_ the stories you want. Pick up that pencil and paper and start drawing some damn comics already, for god’s sake.
It doesn’t even have to be “good”. You’re not doing it for anyone else anyway, it’s for your own satisfaction and mental independence. The willingness to create your own stuff makes it much easier to deal with the hard, harsh truth that NO ONE ELSE WILL MAKE EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT. It drives home the point that you have to make your own happiness and fulfill your own expectations, you can’t just cry for other people to do it for you. After all, they have enough trouble trying to do what they want, why should they give you a free ride? No one owes you anything. Even the professional studios are really just making what THEY want, not what you want. If they were really making what you wanted, then you wouldn’t be complaining in the first place, would you?
Even the worst artists out there do not regret drawing. Every artist wishes that they drew better or differently, but _no_ artist wishes that they never drew at all. Look, if someone so ridiculously unskilled as Gonterman ( http://www.commuterbarnacle.com/gonterman/ ) is willing to pick up a pencil and make the stories he wants, then what’s stopping you? Comic Market exists because every year thousands of unremarkable Japanese fans take the responsibility to make their desires real for themselves, so what’s stopping you?
Shut up and draw already. Doesn’t matter if you suck at it. Doesn’t matter if you can’t make a job out of it. That’s not the point. The point is that you take direct control of your own desires instead of whining for someone else to do it for you.
/ BTW, we’re dealing with an inherently pictorial medium here (ie: anime), so you need to create something _visual_. I’ve seen billions of fans try to take the lazy way out and write fanfic instead of draw, but that won’t cut it. Writing textual fanfic for anime just ends up hitting the same emotional centers as bitching online about anime. Shut up and draw already.

I was looking forward to this show, and I’m sad to see it get canceled. Any works about fans and their subcultures tends to interest me (kinda obvious from the general nature of my posts).

But I’m not mad at all. Japan is this pressure-cooker of people who are stuck in a rut and surrounded by commies, thieves, and “uncultured apes.” The ability for people in the English-speaking West to come together and create anything “mango and animu,” worth its salt of popularity, is a combination of rare and a miracle.
