Horii Yuji x Nico Nico Douga collaboration?

Monday, August 25th, 2008

slime.jpgThe guys running Nico douga wanted to draw animated slime icons for use in nico, and contacted Squareenix to ask if it was okay to do so. But when they did, Horii Yuji together with the rest of the DQ development team replied that they wanted to help to do something bigger instead.

It’s not known what they will be doing yet, but details of their collaboration will be released soon. DQ related icons have already started randomly appearing in nico douga right now.

I hope it’s a vid of Horii Yuji going naked and drinking hi-potion.

Arad Senki anime by Gonzo

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

gonzoquality.jpg4gamer reports that NHN Japan has announced that their online 2D side scrolling action RPG Arad Senki will be made into an anime by Gonzo. I’m glad that Gonzo maintains their high quality art, making the anime look so awesome, unlike the horrible art shown in the game.

The game is known as Dungeon and Fighter in the Korean version, and Gonzo previously made a trailer for the game with similar designs.

I don’t understand why Gonzo keeps losing money, it’s a mystery!

Yamakan steps down as Kemeko-DX OP director

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

nodance.jpgKemeko-DX director Mizushima Tsutomu has written on his blog that Yamamoto Yutaka was the OP director for the upcoming anime Kemeko-DX, but Yamakan has stepped down as he decided himself that he was not good enough as a director, in a similar way as when he was removed as Lucky Star director.

Being “not good enough” was a joke by Mizushima and the truth is that Yamakan had too much work on his hands and wasn’t able to do the opening, so Mizushima will be taking over as OP director, though Yamakan and Ordet will still be contributing to the actual episodes.

It looks like the phrase is sticking as a running joke on Yamakan now!

Umineko vol. 3 is selling out in stores in Akihabara apparently, and there have been a number of good reviews of it from people that didn’t like the first two chapters.

Official site for 801-chan anime
I wonder if that’s the art style that the anime will take. I like how 801-chan is announced as “coming in 2009″ and Haruhi is still “undetermined”.

Miyazaki’s Gake no ue no ponyo breaks 10 billion yen in box office
It has been 4 years since the last Japanese movie broke 10 billion yen, and the last movie was Miyazaki’s Howl’s Moving Castle in 2004.

Zero no Tsukaima vol. 15 to come with a anime DVD
The anime DVD will just contain the first episode to the first season, but it looks like this trend of including DVDs with the original work it was based on is even going to light novels.

Imouto ga kawaii wake ga nai

Got Ore no Imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai since it seemed to be highly recommended. It’s a light novel about a normal non-otaku guy who finds out that his little sister is secretly an otaku who likes battle mahou shoujo anime and plays eroge about little sisters.

I was expecting it to be full of otaku stuff with the premise but the main story focus was actually on his sister and it ended up being pretty entertaining. I’ve hated light novels for a while because I ran into a number of crappy books, but maybe I should start looking again.

Detroit Metal City movie gets rated 80/100
Review praises how the movie wasn’t trying to please the readers of the original manga but instead tried to appeal to all the people that didn’t read the original. Though, the storyline wasn’t really important in DMC so it probably can’t go off-track even if they make major changes.

Tonari no 801-chan TV series by Kyoani

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

yaoi.jpgKyoto Animation is apparently going to be doing a TV anime for Tonari no 801-chan, which is set to air in 2009. I literally spit coffee when I saw this. I guess the rumours that Kyoani is starting to have two lines of production might be true afterall…?

Also, Clannad After Story was screened at the TBS anime festival and it’ll start airing on the 2nd of October as previously suspected.

170,000 people at day one of Comic Market

Friday, August 15th, 2008

atsui.jpgMainichi reports that day one of Comic Market was attended by approximately 170,000 people once again, equalling the record that was set during the last summer in 2007. The bag checks were carried out smoothly without any problems in the flow of traffic apparently.
