frontier invested far too much time in attempting to make some interesting characters that never did anything.

Were you people here when “Macross” was part of Carl Macek’s “Robotech” franchise?
There were times when people worried about what Lynn Kyle was gonna do to Rick Hunter, Minmei’s “Reba West” singing, Lisa Hayes’ “black chick” friend, and who’s ripping off Cpt Gloval (mustache and all).
Nobody was worried much about “nekkid women” (at some 2ndary character’s expense). Because it was all played on US TV, no doubt.
Maybe Gonzo can pull off an anime filled with “nekkid women.” But last I heard: Minna had been burned to death in effigy because she “has sex before 18 year-of-age.”
Yeah. Macross ain’t worth watching anymore. It became just like Gundam; the otaku-filled animu industry doesn’t know what to do anymore.

To compare Macross Frontier to Gundam 00 would be like comparing Pokemon to Digimon Savers. For those who do not follow, allow me to explain. Gundam 00 is filled to the brim with angst and the fight scenes are less than adequate at times, while none of the characters have the balls to get a girl before they go off and get themselves nearly killed. Macross Frontier is visual candy with action packed fight scenes, a love triangle with a hot chick and a loli and a badass aniki full of hotblooded spirit. Pokemon is…well, I haven’t really seen it but it generally entails shallow comedic hijinks as Satoshi and friends get into mini adventures and enslave the poor creatures unlucky enough to run into them. Digimon Savers is a demonstration of manly passion and idiocy as one of the characters frequently gives his traveling companions butthurt by fighting digimon with a strong right hook and hotblooded spirit. Frontier was a little lacking, but by no means was it anywhere near as bad as some of the titles coming out, and is in no way as bad as Gundam. It may not be Gurren Lagann, but at least it’s not PEOPLE DIE IF THEY ARE KILLED.

Also: I thought Gundam 00 sucked for treating Patrick Collasuar (sp?) and the Saji+Louisse couple like crap. I thought Fukuda + Morosawa’s Gundam was 100 times worse for treating Shinn like crap and Kira like the “Almighty Self-Insert Jesus Christ.”
I thought Pokemon sucked for obvious reasons, and treating the Jessie+James+Meowth trio like crap. And I don’t watch Digimon Savers.
I don’t watch Macross F either. All it is now is h-doujin fodder. Just like most of the current animu that’s out there now.

Yes, SEED is bad as well. There’s little good in Gundam anymore, as it has abandoned any ties to traditional mecha series and even its roots (needs moar Bright-slap).

Neither does hotblood. But then again, that’s why it made perfect sense. You’d have to understand Gurren Lagann to understand my ramblings, though, otherwise nonsensical things will remain nonsensical. Only by kicking logic and reason to the curb can you comprehend my way of thinking.

Gundam 00 is a great anime in its own with out being compare to its predecessors, not to mention its in a complete new era or time line …but to be more exact its pretty much a parallel world to that of the first gundam series. Has to Macross frontier well that anime has been following the same plot since the beginning of macross …..pop idol + pilot + mecha +enemy=macross though i simplified it way too much …if you’ve seen any of the macross series its always almost the same only with a few tweaks …like in frontier it has two pop idols new enemy, politics, slice of everyday life, and the captain of skulls doesn’t die and if he does im not saying just in case some one hast seen it to the end …oh and more drama that any mecha fan can bare …..but its still good. The fact that Gurren Lagann was the baddest ass kicking mecha anime in the history of anime ….. doesnt take the fact that Gundam 00 and Macross Frontier were great and kept us glued to the screen for hours.
p.s. Gundam Seed did suck ass!
