He's still alive because he's still on his LiveJournal. So I wouldn't count him out that soon. This is how the story went, last I heard:

But yeah, don't take it seriously. Comics are pretty cheap to rip up for a joke, and there have previously been guys who would print labels on CDs so it looks like an official DVD, then break it and post on the net saying they're really angry. Stuff like that. It's funny as long as there isn't anybody that appears and tries to respond seriously to all the posts.
