Best eromanga of 2008 voted by 2channelers

Voting has ended on the eromanga/novel boards on 2ch for the poll to decide the best eromanga of 2008 and the results are in.
I was personally surprised that Tsundero was top, because I was expecting Shoujo Material to be the clear top this year, but Tsundero deserves its ranking for it’s amazing popularity too. Tsundero is currently sold out everywhere according to several reports.

Your Dog is pretty good.
I never actually got a chance to look at all of Shoujo Material… I should get it, eventually.

For comparison, here’s Toranoana’s best selling list of 2008:

Shoujo Material took top spot (as it should).

24 votes isn’t a lot of votes.

Even though Shoujo Material’s art is stunningly beautiful, it lacked a bit in the ero side. Perhaps that’s why Tsundero got the upper hand.

24 votes is pretty good actually, we have in the vicinity of 600 to 700 titles that can be voted for in 2008, and there were valid votes for 221 different titles. It’s quite difficult to get a really high vote count on any title without having a pool of completely skewed voters really.

Your Dog is great. Lovely artwork and an affecting story. Too bad translation on it has stopped halfway. Hopefully somebody will fund its completion.
Never heard of Tsundero before. Will check it out next time.

And hey, what about Takamichi Love Works? Was the fact that it had almost no ero content what made it get past everyone’s radar?
January 12th, 2009 at 9:48 pm
Takamichi Love Works was not valid for the voting because it’s not 18+
There were a few guys that tried to vote for it anyway but was invalidated

Takamichi Love Works isn’t even an eromanga…it’s mainly just compilation of his LO artworks.
It’s a nice artbook, but it’s no eromanga.

What work does the picture on top of the post belong to?
January 13th, 2009 at 6:24 am
Yeah I’ll like to know too :P
Hmm difference in tastes. I’d agree that Shoujo Material should be top, if not Digital Lover’s Seifuku Rakuen series.

The picture’s actually from Shoujo Material, it’s in b&w in the actual book, but you get an extra booklet with that piece of art in colour if you bought Shoujo Material from Tora.

Despite coming from our benevolent licensor, imo Your Dog is shockingly high, especially considering how much material Akaneshinsha releases in that sub-genre that were, errrrm, more “powerful” shall we say.
Tsundero may have had an unfair advantage since, having been released not two months ago, it’s fresh on reader’s minds. Like how some movies are held until the end of the Oscar season.

“Shockingly high?” What do you mean? Demand for Your Dog, or objection to it being published in the US due to its lolicon content?
January 14th, 2009 at 12:46 am
I merely meant that it placed much higher than I thought it would. Not that it was undeserving, just surprising. Rin is one of their smaller labels.
Umm… where did licensing come into this? @_@;

I misunderstood your post since you weren’t quite clear on the “shockingly high” part. Sorry. ^^;
Rin? As in Comic Rin? I always thought it was one of the better lolicon anthologies to rival Comic LO for its “moe-moe” art style (though Comic LO content has more diverse art styles). Sekiya Asami is one of the more notable artists to debut from Comic Rin with her(?) clean artstyle, and I’ve been following her work since.

Pleased to see that Higashiyama Shou made it on the top 10. Gift is not for everyone, but it’s probably my pick for 2008. I love Sekiya Asami too (and she’s pretty cute IRL; yeah Fat Cat Lim, “her” artstyle indeed) but her female characters in YOUR DOG come off as a bit creepy for some reason.
Oh, and Shoujo Material is overrated.

Tsundero is overrated. As is Shoujo Material.
Makes sense that Imoten and Groove Tube ended up on the bottom, though.
