Condoms with package art by Tony go on sale

daretokuNew Akiba reports that condoms with package art by popular illustrator Tony are now on sale. There are two types of designs in all, one with art from “Sora no iro, mizu no iro”, and another from “After…”. The condoms are manufactured by Okamoto.

The tagline for the package with Sora no iro is “To protect you who are important” and the tagline for After… is “I will not make you cry”.

…I wonder if the infamous curse of Tony would carry over to condoms.

    Why do you always use the smallest picture available when there are larger ones available through the source?

    If the condoms gave you two left dicks I wouldn’t call it a curse…

    Why would otaku need condoms

    They should get Tony to make a exclusive illustration for this product, slap it on a telephone card. Then initial buyers will resell it on Yahoo Auctions. And it would go for 5000 yen minimum.

    I mean come on, this is why Shining Wind is getting a (another?) PC fan disc years after the PS2 game release. “Shining Wind Fan Festa” PC fan disc.

    Also The Shining Wind drama CD series had a recent fourth addition (2009-01), and the pre-orders with omake like telephone cards at Sega Direct sold out even before the sample CD cover illustration was published.

    @Zepy: could you elaborate on the “curse”? The only curse I know of is my emptying wallet every time something Tony comes out. :-)

    Are the respective games actually used in the advertising, or just the art?

    Sora no Iro was awesome because music was by Hiroki Kikuta. It was like playing Secret of Mana but with boobs.

  6. Sqrfrk Says:

    @cube: Wow.

    As an aside, I played Secret of Mana the other day. There were a couple areas in the game where I would stop, look at my ceiling, and shout “DAMN YOU SORAMIZU!”.

    No joke.

    @wah: While it’s true that their partners cannot get pregnant, STD prevention ought not be overlooked. Especially with the blood and stuff.

  8. wah Says:

    Silly me, how could I have forgotten!

  9. Anonymous Says:

    @mt-i

    Blood? With the real dolls? Where the fuck would the blood come fro-

    CHRIST! CANNOT UNSEE!!!!

    Tony’s curse is that any game he works in becomes a B level game no matter his amazing drawing skills.

  11. Zepy Says:

    >piyo
    Yeah, what Ehh said

    >cube
    The titles of the games are used on the packaging, if that’s what you’re asking about…?

  12. piyo Says:

    > “curse”
    haha, b-level bump-n-grind. That sure explains why I still haven’t played Shining Wind, and I still haven’t finished Genmukan, bleh. Thanks for the clarifications (@ehh, @zepy)

    > “blood” -> “UNSEE!!!!”
    I must aspire to be this invigorating. :-)

    There’s a rumor that using condoms can prolong the life of your single-use tengas. But I agree with you that condoms should nevertheless be boycotted by all true otaku for being the dirty symbol of mutual rape they are.

    CONDOMS?!… FOR OTAKU?!…
    Oh dear God, the irony!
