Wouldn’t be the first time that Newtype is incredibly ambiguous just to increase sales of the magazine. Also wouldn’t be the first time that Haruhi fans are reading too much into it, but with the above points the following possibilities are conceived:
If you pick the right possibility and place your bets now, you can claim to have been able to see what Kadokawa was trying to do all along and become a superstar and all will worship you. If you pick the wrong one, all will ridicule and you will tear up all the haruhi novels and send them to the wife of Kyoani’s chairman.
Update:
I missed this, but the profile for Takemoto Yasuhiro in Newtype says that he’s the brigade leader assistant for “Suzumiya Haruhi no yuutsu” that is starting in April and that he’s involved with being the director for the anime.
Brigate leader assistant is his job title for the 2nd season, he only worked on one episode in the 1st season and wasn’t the director.
Update 2:
The J-cast article that originally clearly stated that Kadokawa said it’s a repeat telecast has been edited and now uses the same ambiguous words like in Newtype and no longer clearly says that it’s a repeat.
Update again:
Official Haruhi website updated with same wording that avoids saying rerun and the description for Newtype March on the site has Tsuruya saying that she’s really surprised at the announcement that “Suzumiya Haruhi no yuutsu” is starting in April and that Haruhi is probably planning something fun again.

This is the smartest blog post about Newtype and Haruhi that I’ve seen thus far. After reading the article, it’s quite blatant that the ambiguity displayed by Newtype is more than intentional. Its style is something akin to what we’d expect from the happenings within the Haruhi universe: lots of information about everything from all the players of the game, but few specific data connecting those pieces of the puzzle.
Thanks for posting the hi-res Newtype scans and clearly laying out the possibilities for everyone to see, zepy. It’s a lot smarter than the slanted and one-sided views that some other bloggers have been presenting. I only hope that everyone will read this post and stop whining and pretending that they have the answers to something that’s not explicitly stated.
Personally, I think that the second Haruhi series is on its way. Like I said, the article is very Haruhi-like - perhaps too much so - and leads me to believe that this is just another game for Haruhi.

Just ’cause everyone seems to be very pessimistic and doubtful about this whole thing. Me though, I’m staying optimistic and hoping for the definite 2nd season. In my opinion, the ‘rerun’ is yet ANOTHER way of saying ‘disappearance’ or ‘remake’ of Haruhi’s original world in Volume 4.
But by April, we’ll truly see what will transpire.

Phocus’s comment gave me an idea. What if this “rerun” business is just some fancy wording? Maybe they’re taking a Higurashi style approach, and the events of the first series will be restarted, with changes in specifics (Kyonko cometh)? Of course, this is all baseless speculation…and I don’t understand Japanese, so I can’t even be sure that this sort of wordplay translates…
I don’t know what I’m talking about, I just want to believe Haruhi 2 is coming. I want to believe so bad.

Update: Oh my, look at all the “Updates” going on. The evidence is piling up! If all this is true, then a NEW Haruhi (not necessarily S2, but what else is there?) is almost guaranteed for April.
Then again, this just might be another bullet to ass, kick to the balls, squeeze to the—- you get the idea. Oh God/Haruhi-sama, let there be a 2nd season alrealdy!

That said, I’d vote for 1) or 4), since it’s impossible for KyoAni to have time to make a new series for the spring season as they have their hands full with Sora o Miageru Shojo no Hitomi ni Utsuru Sekai, Haruhi-chan, and Churuya-tan now and K-On! scheduled for spring. 2) would be wishful thinking…not impossible, but truly a stretch.

The reason why I think it’s not a rerun is because it seems really unnecessary to re-broadcast the same series again. I mean, the DVD releases up until now are pretty much the best you can get from the series so far. Plus if they really were to air a rerun, they could’ve just said so. It’s not brilliant marketing to hide an announcement about something we’ve already seen like 3 years ago. If anything, they are hiding something on a more grand scale, oh say, the 2nd season.
But then again, based on the calculations of episodes per week and the date of July 7th, it might be possible. Only way that would work would be to “cut” the extraneous 1-2 episodes, or to jam them into a double-broadcast day.

Shows are rerun all the time, so I’m not sure what you mean by it is “unnecessary”. Maybe they want more people to see it so they will buy the DVDs and related products. But you are right that it seems suspicious they are hiding a rerun announcement. Then again, reruns aren’t a big deal, so it wouldn’t be necessary to spend money for the coverage. So maybe there is something else coming….

wow, i have felt like crying for the last few days. I just heard this news yesterday and it hit me hard. But what really hurt me, was the comments on alot of sites from THE FANBASE. alot of people said alot of things and it was just mean to KyoAni and Aya Hirano and even kadokawa. I want to believe in season2. i really did.
then i found this post. Probably the most intelligent interpretation of the news, and very keen possibilites. And also, for the most part, the comments are very smart.
I have hope.
My theory is that this “rerun” is just another way to get us ready for season 2. By pissing off the fanbase they want to make Haruhi Suzumiya “disappear” from the hearts of the unworthy. (kind of a stretch) But i still believe season 2 is on the rise. some where between April 15 and July 7.
ive been hearing alot of intresting things but this post is by far the most intelligent. All we can really do now is hope.

KyotoAnimu had kicked Yutaka Yamamoto (director of Haruhi’s Melancholy and currently Kannagi) out of the staff list for the rebroadcast.

The staff list didn’t have Yutaka Yamamoto because it wasn’t the staff list for season 1 that was in the article. It’s true that Kyoto Animation left out Yamakan and all the staff that quit Kyoto Animation in the extended staff list for Haruhi (with the disclaimer that some staff were left out), but that’s not the case here. Also Yamakan wasn’t director for Haruhi.
If you take the staff list that anime news network listed in that article and compared it to the season 2 staff that was listed previously, you would see that it is identical, down to “Haruhi Suzumiya to yappari yukai na nakama-tachi” for season two as opposed to “Haruhi Suzumiya to yukai na nakama-tachi” which is for season one.

plus theres a new rumor stating that season 2 WILL run in Spring after clannad after story. if you look at the first scan it says clannad after story at the bottom.
im honestly a bit sketchy on that rumor because i read it in some comments on youtube, but it would not shock me if they had a plausible source.

IM with Slam… 2) is my vote becuz if any1 read the novels, like moi, they left out hat very important short story where kyon goes back through time on tanabata. My theory is that theyre adding that be4 second season starts, but its only in theory. Disappearance can start without that short story…. but I really hope is 3). Big Fan of Goddess Haruhi lol
