Nishimata represents Japan in Star Wars artbook

wait... what?Nishimata Aoi has announced on her blog that she has been picked to represent Japan in an upcoming Star Wars art book which will contain art from over 100 illustrators. She is one of only two artists that are representing Japan in the art book, which is expected to be released late 2009 or early 2010.

The other artist representing Japan is unnamed, but Nishimata comments the other person is somebody who has been around much longer than her and is completely out of reach for somebody like her. She also says she is in charge of the moe illustration, so I’m assuming the other artist will be from a different genre.

Also the book will apparently have a page to introduce the background on each artist that is featured, so it’ll be a pretty big book.

…why Nishimata of all people!

    Because Japan sucks?

Maybe the other guy is so good it balances out Nishimata

Now that’s a unlikely collaboration. Imagine a Ichigo-chan fawning over an R2D2, or gals from Lovely Idol with mics and light sabers in hand. Wut, indeed. I’m not too disappointed at picking Nishimata, since Star Wars is not my thing. Well it would be my thing if it had more NEKO PLUSHES.

Naw. If I had my pick it would be Pop, Yuiko Tokumi, Barasui, Kuuchuu Yousai, Na-ga… \(>_<) Wahoo! What we need is Japanese Style Doggy Girl!

    Moe Leia? X_x

    Pfft.

They should have chosen an artist I like, not one other people do.

    Nishimata is just fine :(

  6. Moogy Says:

Nishimata is now representative of Japanese artwork, eh? Granted, it’s Star Wars, but…

    Oh well. Works for me.

  7. soloista Says:

Muahaha! At least it isn’t the ones that Marvel contracted to draw for their comics. Save for Nihei.

I’m guessing the other guy might be Ourai Noriyoshi, who did one of the official Empire Strikes Back movie posters that was used internationally back then.

Why Nishimata indeed. Well, I’m not into Star Wars anyway, so it’s no big deal for me.

    >Why Nishimata indeed.

Fanboyish answer to that question: because Nishimata is an awesome artist amongst Japan’s Moe/Bishoujo art scene and it was about time this to be aknowledged by entertainment industry outside Japan at last ^_~

Less biased possible answer: because Nishimata gained a top spot among the better/best known Bishoujo artists of Japan…I mean, how many other “collegues” of her can claim an essay book about her as well photobook on her pets (!) been published or having illustrated comestible goods like rice, wine amongst others?

That said it’s the total other way around for me - not care much for Star Wars, but with Nishimata involved my curiosity is caught.

I wonder how would George Lucas seriously feel later on.

  12. Shance Says:

    WHY NISHIMATA OF ALL PEOPLE?

Nothing good ever came out of Navel anymore ever since Suzuhira left it, and Nishimata was left to do all the eroge sketches with her deformed, fat art.

No wonder she also does sochu labels and rice sacks for art.

you didn’t play enough eroge sonny. truely you would expect being the top with a design that is stupidly the same minus the hair?

I do have enough Eroge on my plate sonny, be sure of that ;)
You seem to be mixing up your personal view on Nishimata’s art with what I said there. If you don’t like it, that’s fine as long as you except others (like myself) *do*
But on terms of popularity (whether acchieved rightfully in your view or not) Nishimata *is* among the nowadays best known Bishoujo (Soft) artists out there - which the media projects such as this one (again, whether you like it or not doesn’t play a role there) showcase.

  15. Jin Says:

    why nishimata?
    because she is a torpedo
