Iwahara Yuuji starting Darker than Black manga

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

nekotenYoung GanGan has announced that Iwahara Yuuji will be starting a Darker than Black manga on their magazine starting from the next issue released 15th of May. Iwahara was also the artist that did the original designs for the characters in Darker than Black and the manga will have a completely original story.

For a while I was wondering if the DTB2 anime was already cancelled in the planning stages, maybe it’s still on the way afterall!

I’m glad Iwahara isn’t continuing to stay on Champion RED, his manga is always great but it sure doesn’t fit in with their recent direction at all! I think this might be his first serialization that isn’t monthly.

For chapter 248 Negima got top in Shounen Magazine in the name one favorite manga category and reason for buying category but barely missed getting top in the name 5 manga which were interesting category by 0.4%.

Akiman always pops up in the weirdest places! Doesn’t stop him from being totally cool still.

Konjiki no Gash’s Raiku Makoto starting new manga in new magazine
New magazine is still unnamed and will be a supplement magazine to Shounen Magazine. The magazine will start 10th September and a prologue will be on the Shounen Magazine issue that’s released 9th September. It’s pretty strange how they’re only giving him a place on a supplement magazine considering how well gash had sold…

Kaiji live action movie coming 10th October

Monday, April 27th, 2009

otokomaeLivedoor news reports that the previously reported live action Kaiji movie will go on cinemas on the 10th of October. In addition to Fujiwara Tatsuya acting as Kaiji, they have also changed the gender of Endou and casted actress Amami Yuuki for the role.

The Kaiji manga will actually start again beginning from the vol 27 of Young Magazine too, that was a really long wait. I guess that was why Zero was stopped temporarily with that weird end.

Key announces Maeda Jun project Angel Beats!

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

that was fastKey has announced a new game called Angel Beats! which will have the scenario written by Maeda Jun and art by Na-ga. Maeda was supposed to have quit scenario writing after Little Busters ended so he can focus on music stuff, but he sure came back really quickly!

A promotional video is available for viewing here.

They’re making a Romeo+Ryukishi game and a Maeda game at the same time. Key is almost becoming my new favorite eroge brand now.

Edit: Might not be a game, just says it’s a new project

The latest Dengeki G’s which doesn’t say what the Angel Beats! project is supposed to be either, aside from that Maeda Jun will start a blog and there’s a corner on the web radio where listeners are supposed to guess what it’s supposed to be, and a comment from Maeda saying that it’ll be nice if it’s an RPG.

Some responses to Satou Shuuhou’s stuff

Friday, April 24th, 2009

I thought some famous authors might want to say something about this if I wait a little, but it appears industry people want to stay silent this time as compared to the Raiku incident!

This took longer than I expected, thanks to SF4 and Himegari dungeon. I hope I can do the rest of Satou Shuuhou’s posts tomorrow.

Kannagi author Takenashi Eri is still alive

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

ntr ntr ntr etcTakenashi Eri has updated her site, which has not been updated since October, with a note about her long hiatus on Kannagi since November last year when she was hospitalized. She says she has already been discharged and now recuperating at home.

She doesn’t want to say what she is exactly down with as people might get even more worried about her condition, but she says that it was a major illness that came as a result of her pushing herself too much.

She also thanks the fans who have been worried about her condition and sending her mail, including people who have sent flowers and even a string of a thousand paper cranes (used in praying for recovery from sickness).

She is still trying her best to get her stamina back before continuing Kannagi again, as manga is all about stamina and if she tries to do it without being fully healthy it’ll just cause more problems again if she fails.

New Azumanga in Gessan magazine

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

Azuma Kiyohiko will be doing three all new chapters for the new monthly magazine by Shogakukan called Gessan (short for Monthly Shounen Sunday). These new chapters will also be in the Shogakukan special re-release version of Azumanga which will be recompiled to 3 books instead of 4.

Satomi Hideki who is the director of Yotsuba Studios clarifies on their website that this move from MediaWorks to Shogakukan was not because of any disagreements with the publisher, and that it’s not strange to have a change in publisher when making recompilations. They actually discussed it with MediaWorks about it about 18 months ago before bringing the project to Shogakukan.

He’s clarifying all this because mangaka vs publisher news seems to be prevalent over the past one year, and he doesn’t want any weird rumours about it, and says that the editor in charge of Yotsubato! has already become an existence that they cannot do without when making Yotsubato! and the chief editor listens to them a lot when they want to discuss new projects and tries very hard to make these projects come true.

He also adds that the only problem that arose due to this is that they had to stop Yotsubato! because of the work needed for the recompilation of Azumanga.

Editors are sometimes said to be the 2nd author for a manga, as it’s not unusual for an editor to get very involved with the author in discussing how the story in a manga would go or how each panel should be done. The reference about the Yotsubato editor would probably be referring to something along this line.
