Evangelion live action is real

ITmedia reports that the April fools joke by Yahoo about making a live action TV drama of Evangelion wasn’t that much of a joke after all.

Yahoo asked visitors to vote for their dream cast for if an Evangelion live action drama was made, and now TV Asahi will be making a live action Evangelion with the cast that was voted by users. It’s not certain yet if they can completely stick to the casting from the poll results, but they’ll try their best to do so.

Anyway it doesn’t seem like it’ll be a real TV drama or a movie, as the article says it will be used to promote the 2nd Evangelion movie that will be going on theaters in June, so it’s likely it’ll just be a short clip.

These are the people that were the top picks for each character:

Ikari Shinji - Kamiki Ryunosuke

Ayanami Rei - Horikita Maki

Shikinami Asuka Langley - Toda Erika

Ikari Gendou - Abe Hiroshi

Akagi Ritsuko - Matsuyuki Yasuko

Katsuragi Misato - Matsushima Nanako

Maki as Rei is absolute WIN!, well, she is a little old for the role now, but stil sounds very appealing.

  2. serial Says:

    WHAAAAAAAAAAT!
April Fooled! I love it when a company fools everyone into thinking anything is April Fools when it isn’t.

  3. Mugi Says:

Gotta be the first to say… I’l be 100% darn AVOIDING it.

  4. Alex Says:

Yes! Abe Hiroshi is the man! (Shout-out to バブルへGO!!~タイムマシンはドラム式, of course!)

Though Abe Hiroshi as Ikari Gendo is pretty funny.

  11. dzero Says:

Why is Asuka named Shikinami instead of Soryuu??

  12. Zepy Says:

She got a new name for the movie version

  13. Arkiel Says:

Uh. Yeah. Asuka would actually be more-or-less Caucasian if they were preserving race from the series. Believe her mother was half-white to begin with.

  14. Cowboy Bebop Live Action Says:

First Dragonball, then Cowboy Bebop now NGE…great news if it comes into fruition

  15. Kaisos Says:

Kid playing Shinji could look the part. If he was screaming.

Guy playing Gendou looks like he’s going to be epic.

  16. Nivenus Says:

Yeah, I think most of those look like good choices. But Asuka, being half-German/Japanese with half-American on the other side should probably look Caucasian (especially since Japanese usually interpret Americans as white so it’s likely Mr. Langley was as such).

It shouldn’t be that hard to get a Western actor should it? At least not any harder than getting Japanese actors for everyone else (since the film is Western produced).

I also want to say, though I’m not familiar with any of these actors Abe Hiroshi looks perfect for Gendo.
