Autographs of famous mangaka on Yahoo auctions
Yahoo auctions user maruhacs apparently has a lot of signed sketches from famous mangaka such as Araki Hirohiko, Oda Eiichirou, Akira Toriyama, Sadamoto Yoshiyuki and even one from Miyazaki Hayao, and he’s putting them up for auction starting at the really low price of 20,000 yen!
Of course none of these illustrations look anything like they were drawn by the author, and they all look like trace work of existing art, and none of the auctions have any word on when and how these signed illustrations were obtained.
This guy here got 323,000 yen (US$3,230) for a signed sketch of Sadamoto which the seller claims was done for him privately, but it looks like it was just traced from this.
Looks like this is big money, or something.
A few years ago a (real) signed sketch by Sadamoto went for 861,200 yen (US$8,612) at Mandarake, this is how it looked like.
Update: Eureka Seven character designer and main animator Yoshida Kenichi responded on his bbs saying that he has been informed by multiple people about the fake autographs and has informed his company about it.
Somebody checked on the auction history of the guy selling these fake autographs and this guy has been making in the vicinity of 1,000,000 yen a month from these auctions alone.
