Moekko free ticket for Hokkaido bus service
The coastline bus that goes around Hokkaido through places such as Rumoi City and Toyotomi Town has started a moekko free ticket and it’s gaining popularity now. It was originally made to try to stop the dropping number of bus riders, but it has gotten applications from even outside of Hokkaido.
The company running the service hopes that this opportunity will help to increase the number of people that use the bus service.
Moekko free ticket was targeted towards tourists so they wanted to play around with it a little. The kanji from moe is part of the name of Rumoi city so they came up with this moekko design.
They had announced this on their website in April and officially started selling it on the 1st of May, and have received a total of approximately 150 applications ranging from people within Hokkaido to even Okinawa. There were a large number of people that applied for both the 1 day free ticket (2300 yen) and the 2 day free ticket (3200 yen).
Apparently anything moe will sell!
