Production and sale of rape games will be banned

rapelay

So now it’s confirmed this time!

The emergency EOCS meeting involving almost 100 representatives from various eroge companies has just ended, and the final conclusion is that rape games are now banned.

Via: Abel Group blog

According to the writer, there were surprisingly little objections to this, but rather there was an atmosphere among those who were present where many felt that there was probably no other way to solve this problem. Though due to the nature of the meeting they did not actually take a vote.

But this did not mean that were were no opinions that were voiced out, people such as the VisualArts chairman Baba, Morita from AIL, and ex-head director of Studio e.go Yamamoto Kazue have voiced some interesting opinions too.

However there was nobody that held the opinion that it’s absurd that they will have to ban rape games.

Rather, the concerns of many gathered around the exact details of what would be okay and what wouldn’t. That’s understandable as there are many makers that are concerned over the future of the games that are currently already in development.

Basically, although it has already been decided that they’ll ban rape games, the exact regulations and definitions of what is okay and what isn’t will be worked out and refined from here on out.

But for the time being the EOCS will work with each company individually till the exact regulations are made. Though, regulations on packaging and game titles will probably start to get a lot more stricter starting from tomorrow.

  1. Miha Says:

So EOCS represents only certain game makers? This is self-regulation if I understand correctly, and it’s not going to be enforced by Japanese law?

  2. Will Robertson Says:

Well, as I understand it, gamemakers will have to follow these rules in order to get a rating and have their products in stores. They could just go to that other rating group (I forget their name), or release their products on the web.

  3. Kaisos Says:

So I can assume that this means they’re ‘banning’ games that FOCUS on rape, and not just games like Tsukihime that HAVE rape (as a plot point.)

If that’s true I fail to see the problem. Good to see more scum cleaned from the world.

  4. PornLovingFeminist Says:

As long as it’s not a law, I’m okay with it. Extreme stuff still has DLsite and other such outlets.

Putting extra restrictions on weird content helps reinforce the idea that this is a fetish and not what should be considered normal sexual behavior… without actually demonising people who do have a fetish and are not criminals.

However, the worry is, of course, that things could get worse from here…

  5. Kaisos Says:

This is Japan. They ‘banned’ loli games, and of course there are still loli games.

    Why worry?

  6. Anonymous Says:

As long as it doesn’t become legislation

  7. killdream Says:

It’s strange to see how Americans that have nothing more to do goes all the way around to ban things that aren’t even sold in their country >_> I don’t see where they’re going trying to create alot of victmless crimes, it’s sick.

Anyways, the thinkings are all wrong altogheter. It’s all okay if you go around killing lots of peoples and splashing blood all over the screen (GTA, Max Payne and 99% of American games), and other ‘unlawfull’ things that they still putting on games and no one is giving a damn to it (of course, they make $money$ there, so…). But they go all crazy to ban games like Rule of Rose, that has nothing of disgusting on it (but actually, it was italian minister), lolis and now, rapes.

Now, is this a silent attempt of sekai dominashion?

Well, not that I like sex in games, actually, but peoples should have freedom to do whatever they want to if they’re not going to harm/interfere in the rights of other peoples .-.

  8. Why not! Says:

I understand why this games is banned, but I think it shouldn’t in some way. If this game could satisfy a potential rapist and stop him from raping a real personn, go for it make this game legal. Anyway, nobody with rational thinking will by this game.

  9. Jin Says:

    so stupid and pointless

  10. xino Says:

basically they’ll ban rape simulation games but games that includes rape will not be.

  11. Terrible Says:

This is ridiculous. I’ve seen plenty of monstrosities who call themselves Christ-ians who can’t remember the teachings of the man they named Lord, doing exactly what he said you shouldn’t do, who still imagine that’s it’s the fault of a game that that caused their son to go on a shooting-spree.

Christ-ians need remember to teach what their Lord wanted them to learn.

  12. Sqrfrk Says:

@killdream: I believe this whole fiasco started because Amazon imported the game for sale in the US. I must certainly have nothing else to do than to push for legislation against selling rape games, because man, that’s the American in me and I can’t control myself.

@Terrible: You need to think about what you’re saying for just a second. Particularly, you need to think about what “Christ-ians” remember what their Lord taught them about adultery, fornication and “turning the other cheek”. Now when you think about that, you’ll realize that what you just said was COMPLETELY irrelevant.

Avoid the generalizations, please. It’s that kind of garbage that started this mess in the first place.

  13. Terry Bogard Says:

“Now, is this a silent attempt of sekai dominashion?”

    I want to dominate Sekai…

  14. Anonymous Says:

    Amazon didn’t import jack shit.

Rapelay was put on the Amazon Marketplace by a third party seller.

So its more than likely some fucking weeaboo started this entire shitstorm.

  15. Terrible Says:

    @Sqrfrk

    >>remember what their Lord taught them about adultery, fornication and “turning the other cheek”.

If at least 1/4 of the people who call themselves “Christ”(calling them christians doesn’t describe how they think of themselves) practiced and taught what their “Lord taught them about adultery, fornication and turning the other cheek”, I wouldn’t have a problem.

  16. some dude Says:

let me preface by stating i don’t approve of or condone rape in any form.

but this is a step towards censorship. rape is illegal and wrong for many reasons. then again, so is killing. so by this logic the next step is to ban games which include killing people- name any first person shooter, any war game- and poof, they are gone too. this is a slippery slope.

  17. Sqrfrk Says:

@Terrible: Whether you have a problem with them or not isn’t the issue - the issue is that whatever you said was completely irrelevant to the topic. You’ve generalized a group of people for their religious beliefs, but to what end? The groups that started this fiasco were secular groups that were apparently serving women’s interests, no matter how misguided anyone believes them to be.

So once again, avoid generalizations. And to that end, stay on topic.

  18. Sqrfrk Says:

@Anonymous: That’s right, my mistake - I forgot that sellers can use the front as a marketplace. I think I remember Amazon taking down the listing after it was reported too.

  19. Taimanin Usagi Says:

Jeez, are not catholic priests who molest children far more worse than computer games? Ban catholic church instead, you stupid censors!!!!!

  20. Anonymous Says:

Catholic priests who molest children are worse than computer rape games.

I guess we can arrest the priests and censor the rape games, huh?

  21. Anonymous Says:

Actually, we can’t arrest the priests. That’s why there’s the problem with catholic priests.

First, the church protects them, and everyone else protects the church.

  22. Anonymous Says:

Why is Christianity being discussed when this all started with a feminism group? I fail to see the connection here.

You people seem not to understand this.

    This is what you got.
This is just one step of the feminist’s list.

Rape Games don’t rape people. People rape people.

  26. Anonymous Says:

    BAN FUCKING EVERYTHING

  27. Anonymous Says:

    Tonight we’ll rape in hell!!

  28. Anonymous Says:

Why stop there? Ban everything. Implant chips inside humans at birth. No one will be able to think or choose.

  29. Accany Says:

This probably means the end of dark eroges. Sigh. And some rape eroges have really good story content too.

  30. me Says:

Portraying a female negatively in a fictional work will be banned day.

  31. Chad Says:

Oh no! Now I’ll have to viciously strip and tie up girls, then have them inexplicably submit to their fate (and like it on some level), before I can bring on the tentacle gangbang and Hello Kitty vibrator. Seriously though, we all know that the rape in games, anime, and manga seldom ever even comes close to real world rape (they tend to get into it like it was role play all along), and even when it is rape, they are soulless entities created to be props that move the plot along, so no harm done. I’ve always hated feminists, but now I’m hating them on the level where I wish they’d all be found facedown in a ditch somewhere (preferably on top of each other so not to ruin the whole lesbo stigmata they got stuck with).

  32. Peter Payne Says:

Cue a line of “doujin” (unrated) games from nearly every major publisher in 3, 2…

  33. PornLovingFeminist Says:

I’ve always hated feminists, but now I’m hating them on the level where I wish they’d all be found facedown in a ditch somewhere (preferably on top of each other so not to ruin the whole lesbo stigmata they got stuck with).

You are why we eroge players are getting screwed. Because you’re a violent small-minded dipshit and you play these games, so people who don’t understand correlation-vs-causation think that the games made you this way, and they ban games to prevent other people from turning into YOU (a fate worse than death).

  34. Anonymous Says:

    Game that is banned: Rapeplay.
It has a dude raping women.
    Clearly, it inspires rape.

    Game that is legal: Postal2.
This is your run-of-the-mill shoot ‘em up game that lets you pick on and shoot innocent bystanders, decapitate them, light them on fire with gasoline, and even throw an anthrax-filled cow’s head at them. The results of the anthrax will make them vomit blood. Still want more? You’ll want to shoot people quietly, of course. So there’s a silencer in the game - a live cat. Well, it’s live when you start. You stick the gun up the cat’s butt and the gun is muffled, but every time you shoot, the cat cries out in pain. Eventually the cat will die and fly off of the gun.

Clearly, it inspires murder and torture. But it’s okay! It has no rape.

  35. Anonymous Says:

How the hell do rape games promote rape while murder games don’t promote murder?

Look at Munhunt 1 and 2. Postal 1 and 2. Chiller. Carmageddon. True Crime: New York City. Hitman: Blood Money. Grand Theft Auto.

You get EXTRA POINTS by torturing to death innocent people, women and children included. Beating the crap out of innocent bystanders is not only allowed, but is encouraged.
And if you’re creative and pour gasoline on a woman and light her up, like in Postal 2, you get even higher score.
Or like in Hitman, and The Punisher, where the game encourages players to be as brutal with their victims as possible. And one can say the latter’s plot encourages people to take the law in their hands and go kill those who have wrong them.
    And so many more.

I almost never play such games. And yet I don’t start a crusade against them!

  36. Anonymous Says:

Man, eroge with supernatural themes and a dark atmosphere often have awesome storylines but still happen to easily feature more than 20% rape scenes. I mean come on, what woman would voluntarily have consensual sex with the tentacle demon overfiend the main character has to slay or banish? Often they HAVE to be raped by the antagonist in order to advance the storyline and motivate the protagonist to do something against it.

  37. Anonymous Says:

Man, too bad the eroge with the best gameplay often happen to feature rape. Daiakuji, Rance, and lots of other AliceSoft games were more interesting in terms of mechanics than most console strategy games or SRPGs.

what is game in my sense game makes you out to new worldwere you cant reach . i like cricket but i dont have a talent and guys to play around so i buy one of the game and satisfy my self so i dont have to search for it . so likely if any body like rape its better he satisfy his need in his home rather go out and do it for real. as long as they try to stop themselves the valcano get hotted and finally it errupt.
    sorry if i heart anybody

  40. Anonymous Says:

Im sorry if this will seem out of context…but…do these guys even understand what will happen if they ban eroge? I mean…its written down in the article that almost 100 representatives came (imagine how many there are that didnt come, and imagine, just how many companies there are making eroge…)

And what happens once the rape games are baned? Where the heck will the people that were developing them go to? There you go, even more unhappy, jobless people.

Pretty good for the economy…now isnt it?

(in case you didnt realise it, the last line was sarcasm)

BTW: I have to agree with what was pointed out before. Rape games make people go rape? Yeah right. (its far better for people to take it out on 2D or 3D images in a virtual world, than to realy go out and take it out on living beings)

What about games in which you kill every single person you cay see? And actually getting prizes for doing it. Youre actually being encouraged to kill.

I dont see what would be better if you banned repe games. As i pointed out before, only worse.

I even heard that Unicef wants to ban everything Ecchi. Games, Manga, Anime, everything….

Saying that even Ecchi content provokes people to go out and sexually harass others.

Luckily that has been put on hold. And i sincerely hope that Japan will be smart enough not to allow it. Because if they by any chance succeed in banning Ecchi content (Games, Anime, Manga), Anime Developers will suffer another massive blow, as there almost isnt an Anime or Manga nowadays without a good pantie shot or something like that….

  43. Anonymous Says:

Just so were clear, i got nothing against Unicef. In fact, i applaud them for what they are doing. Helping homeless and hungry kids and all that.

I just think that they are going to far with this.

  44. Psycho sane-o Says:

There happen to be certain rape-themed H-games that i have… if they ban productions of rape themes, this’ll be a serious blow to ALL animations, namely Bishoujo makers. not to mention, i’ll miss a few good hentai and games because of this foolishness…

and i’m guessing that those feminists merely want to ban rape themes due to the fact that females (duh!) are being oppressed in certain conditions like forced sex, bondage, etc… but if they’re hitting the rape themes, why don’t they make a move on violence?

if they don’t, they’re hypocrites. if they do, they’ll ruin a BIG part on ALL of gaming. so all in all, it’s a lose-lose situation.

the only good thing that i see here is that it would help reduce idiotic perverts who would go for actually raping a real woman, bsed on what they’ve ben craving… but only desperate and idiotic losers do that.

  45. Anonymous Says:

Well i believe, that its better for a idiotic pervert like that to take it out on a 2D or 3D animation, rather than go rape in real life…

  46. Derekp Says:

I think i’ve seen this somewhere before…but it’s not bad at all

  47. Anonymous Says:

Actually, once you end the story mode (or whatever), and enter Free Mode/Stage, you dont realy have to rape them.

You can make it look like any normal hentai game. As the number of how many times you did it with that girl rises, she will stop yelling “no” and “help me” and all that, and it will realy seem just like any ordinary 3D hentai game. You dont realy have to force the abortion (why shoot inside anyway? XD)

  48. saloni kolhatkar Says:

it is very bad to have like this games. it can spoil childrens life by playing this games!!!!!!

  49. divi mishra Says:

it is very nice to have like this games.so that children will now how it is happening and will not go into the trap

  50. Anonymous Says:

I have already heard a lot of the programmers and such have “deserted” the main industry and gone on to web releases with small teams instead of staying in companies.

This kind of seems like trying to ban alcohol: it doesn’t get rid of it, it just gets forced underground were it festers and grows before reemerging like a tidal wave of pus and mucus reeking untold destruction on the poor saps that tried to get rid of it.

  51. rahul Says:

    rape gameeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  52. Anonymous Says:

When nothing changes, can we have the ban lifted?

No, I didn’t think so. Remember, you can do what you want, unless they tell you otherwise. They’re more important than you, y’see. That’s why we have a tiered system of citizen’s rights.
