Vanguard Princess

who are you

Vanguard Princess is a freeware 2D fighting game made in 2D fighting game maker by Sugeno Tomoaki, a video of the game in action can be viewed here (youtube)

This sure came out of nowhere! The game art style is modern moe style but the actual game system is closer to old fighting game style instead of the easy-combo game style that these kinds of games have become associated with. This game is way too good in all aspects for a freeware game.

There doesn’t seem to be a full list of credits listed aside from the creator Sugeno Tomoaki, who is supposedly an ex-capcom employee as according to what people have managed to dug up about him.

The official site is here and the game can be downloaded here.

I was waiting for this post.
This game is unique as hell.
    First off, almost no chains.
Mashing ABC will fail to combo with everyone, a few characters have target combos but that’s it.
Almost NO two in ones either (normal canceled into a special)
    Like C into hadoken?
    Not happening.
You need your assists to cover the gaps for you, they are essential to comboing anything.
Not using your assist is like having only a jab button in an SF game.
There’s two characters who are the exception to this, Waitress and Tonfa both have normals into specials that combo from standing.
Interestingly enough they are the two characters with rekkas.

Anyway, time for shameless plug video

Definately a fan of this. It’s very well done, and a free download? The hell?

I would not be surprised to learn that he did indeed work at Capcom. It certainly feels like it in a lot of places.

For working with AppLocale(without regional settings change) you needs:
    1. Path to game must contain only Latin chars.
    2. Rename folder ヴァンガードプリンセス to anything else (”vanpri” for example)
    3. Rename ヴァンガードプリンセス.exe to vanpri.exe
    4. Rename ヴァンガードプリンセス.kgt to vanpri.kgt
    5. Use AppLocale, now it works
    ….
    X. Profit

That’s her 360 grab. You can do it with A,B or C, and her super is the same motion

downloading this, but I’m playing Blazblue right now and from what i’m seeing here, the two don’t match in style at all, so I’m just going to have more fun with Blazblue for now.
