Child porn law revision bill likely to be scrapped

Yahoo news (through Mainichi) reports that it is almost certain that the child porn law revision bill, among several other bills currently being looked at, will be scrapped as Prime Minister Aso Taro has decided that the lower house of parliament will be dissolved and general elections will be held on the 30th of August.

No doubt, a new revision will most likely appear some time after the new lower house takes possession.

Sorry I got an off-topic question, and decided to post it here since this is once again political news, which should really be left out in an anime blog, but anyways…

Is there an english language discussion forum for players of Atelier Rorona somewhere? I’ve been thinking if it’s worth me hunting it down (assuming it’s still not completely sold out) and playing with zero kanji skills. If it isn’t too text-heavy and if the interface is intuitive enough it may be worth a shot.

But seriously, though, this could have been a PS2 game. I just don’t see any reason for it being a PS3-exclusive game other than Sony using loli panchira to push units. It sure doesn’t look like it’s pushing any hardware to its limits.

    Thanks.

    1. Gust just won’t accept the cost of those PS3 dev kits as a loss, so…
    and/or
    2. Sony really needs the PS3 to perform well in Japan, which is the only territory where it stands a chance at some kind of profitability, so…

On plus side, the game looks pretty good in a higher-than-PS2-but-still-low-poly kind of way.

On topic, that bill isn’t so much “scrapped” as “put aside to be brought back when a diversion is needed”. Child porn laws are an endless spring of free and easy grandstanding for politicians.

I suppose, in an indirect way, Aso Taro saved 2-d (or at least gave it some breathing room).

Because next-gen games have to have shitloads of bloom lighting, amirite. There’s no way Rorona could be pulled off on the PS2, actually. You could do a similar style, but there’s no way it would look as good.

Well, this is coming from someone who still says that Wild ARMs 3 has the best 3D of any PS2 game, so take it with a grain of salt.

Definitely. These latest developments are just buying us some time. We can’t be lax in our defense.
