Manga and novel industry tightening censorship?

bokurano

Bokurano author Kitou Mohiro has announced on his site that the Bokurano special chapter that would have been on the next issue of IKKI has been canceled and will not be published at all. It sounds like he had already completed work on it too.

He says there is the possibility that he might still be able to get it out in some form in the future, but nothing is decided yet.

Square Enix’s GanGan Online has announced that the release of upcoming light novel “Kurai heya” by Karabe Yousuke has been canceled due to various unspecified reasons. It’s a complete new story so there is no information on the contents, but the title sounds like it might have been a horror story.

The author Karabe Yousuke says on his blog that he was told that the reason for the cancellation was because the story that he wrote was against the ethics regulations of the company. He made a proposal on how he could change the story, but it was apparently not a problem with how the ideas were expressed, and it was impossible for him to change the story in any way that could change their decision.

He had already submitted the manuscripts in April this year and was given the okay by the editor in charge but was suddenly informed of the decision to cancel the publication of the novel early this month.

Karabe Yousuke had previously written novels such as PSYCHE and has long been suspected to be eroge writer Setoguchi Renya who wrote the scenario for games such as Kira☆Kira and CARNIVAL before retiring from the eroge industry.

Someone must protect us from words and drawings!

    Seriously, WTF?

YOU HAVE TO THINK ABOUT THE CHILDREN

Seriously now, free from the capitalists, they don’t represent your rights and liberties. Sadly the real internet community still has to prove of finding ways of supporting artists for their work, then we won’t need the hurr self durr regulatory bodies anymore.
Say no to hive-mind of any form. Say yesterday to global monopolists.

  3. Fonzer Says:

Ah yes japan people are so afraid of horror that they sometimes don’t allow to publish it.

  4. Breadcultist Says:

@Anonymous: Don’t forget that the self regulatory bodies have been useful as a shield to hide behind, somewhere to shift the burden of responsibility. Independent authors lose this protection.

I wonder what was wrong with the material in these novels. I assume the sources are silent on the specific details?

now i sit and wait for shounengahousha to make their move. if they start a censorship campaign, all hope is lost as far as i am concerned. i would be concerned if i were you.

If they dare touch COMIC LO, I will go online and whine about feminists!

It’s not new, there are a lot of case where the publisher doesn’t approve a ready script even from a notorious guy, just think of any writer or wanabee writer in the book industry, your work will always be “polished” on a 1 for 4 submittal.

    >there are a lot of case where the publisher doesn’t approve a ready script even from a notorious guy

These were already approved and advertised for publication but later canceled

  9. Havvekkin Says:

Kitou can publish this special chapter online for free.
Same for the light novel, the author can sell it as doujinshi directly bypassing square-enix.

    Has anyone watched “Toshokan Sensou”?

Damn the Japanese are so lucky; they could subsist on sunlight, air, water, and bullshit.

They should at least specify why they rejected his story…

I do admit I am very disturbed by the amount of eye-candy found in supposedly manga titles for boys/girls. A sexy body here and now it’s fine, but they’re really pushing it lately.

  14. inkwell Says:

Is it possible these were cancelled due to the financial difficulties of the publishers? Telling the author they were cancelled due to their content sounds better than “the market sucks so we are not going to print them.”

I wish the artists luck, hopefully their contracts will allow them to print these elsewhere.

… gee, that’ll accomplish so much.

It’s amazing how some people think there’s a well-organised conspiracy out there that can magically control companies and governments… When do I get my world-altering conspiracy powers, eh?

But it’s so much easier to WHINE than to look at complex causes or actually do anything productive!

  16. anonymouse Says:

The government is so good. They’re actually making it easier for parents by censoring everything. Now, parents won’t have to do anything to raise their kids! They can now concentrate on working their 14-hour workdays for the betterment of society! All is good!
