Cross Channel full translation released

tomodachi

I just realized that Amaterasu Translations has released a full translation patch for Tanaka Romeo’s Cross Channel. I liked the game so I’m posting about it now that it’s translated!

Fate/Stay Night writer Nasu Kinoko gave it a rave review back when the game was first released:

There is nothing to say about this.
I had a hunch about it, but I didn’t expect it to be this good.

CROSS†CHANNEL (FlyingShine)

I’ll make this my family heirloom.
It’s both my good fortune and bad luck that I would meet this work which now reigns as an absolute and insurmountable wall.

Anyway the game is too amazing so everybody please play it! Oh man, I know saying all this is like I’m strangling my own neck, but I can’t stop myself from recommending it!

Also I don’t know if they translated it, so this might only apply for the guys that know Japanese, but if you played Cross Channel and haven’t read Tower of Friends (トモダチの塔), you might want to google for it. It’s one of the extra scenarios by Romeo that was in the official settings book which ties up a few loose ends.

Dragon Battle Evolution

all top caliber

The DVD for a western movie with a strangely familiar cover art titled Dragon Battle Evolution (amazon) was released in Japan apparently. I’ve never heard of this movie so I did some research and found that it was actually called Sci-Fighter or X-treme Fighter (youtube) in the US… which I’ve never heard of either.

Nice localization change of the cover for the Japan DVD release.

Agarest Senki Europe box art

The two box art shown above were the choices that were being considered by Ghostlight who were bringing Agarest to Europe. They’ve since then decided to use the original Japanese art after receiving feedback from users, but it’s… interesting that the 3D one was being considered.

Some European game stores are apparently already using the 3D art for the game’s product page in their online store.

The case of Layton in Europe had shown how a properly localized box art can bring huge sales, but… real designers are probably needed.

Nishimata Aoi batteries to be sold in major stores

yarisugi

Nishimata Aoi has announced on her blog that AA and AAA batteries featuring her art will go on sale in a number of major electronics stores in Japan starting from the 19th of September.

She doesn’t say exactly which of the major electronics stores the batteries will be sold in yet, but she mentions she has seen the list and it’s a bunch of really famous names.

Nishimata has been commissioned to do a lot of random stuff like moe sleeping bags or moe watermelons recently, but this seems like the first time that one of the goods containing her work may be entering large scale distribution. Aside from the Star Wars book that is.

Frontwing’s 3D eroge + dancing girl game Time Leap Paradise has been released and it completely exceeds expectations!

  • Game title is not displayed on the front of the game package
  • Back of the game box says that the game is 1 DVD, but inside the box are two dual layer DVDs and an apology letter for not being able to change the storage requirements in time
  • Minimum requirements on the official website say that the game needs more than 20gb of hdd space but actual installation is between 9~10gb
  • Takes a large amount of time to install
  • Game randomly crashes
  • If the player saves the game during the opening and loads again, the character models stop moving their lips in synch with the voice
  • Game manual does not explain the game objective or introduce any of the characters
  • Somebody got stuck at a point where the only area he can visit is the shopping arcade but he just loops back to the selection screen every time he selects the shopping arcade
  • Sound settings in the options do not work
  • It might not be possible to save or load in the game depending on the display resolution
  • Possible to have long range sex in H-scenes so both parties are not touching each other
  • Somebody had a complete black screen for the ending credits
  • Character randomly sinks into the stage and sing with her back facing the player for the entire song
  • Brown colored model randomly appears
  • Objects not where they are supposed to be
  • Ultimate spinning paradise (nico)

Konami’s Love Plus gets 32/40 on Famitsu

    Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

    8/10
The game is completely different before and after the girl becomes your girlfriend. The feeling of flirting around with girls who have all sorts of animations while feeling embarrassed is further enhanced by the amount of care they put into the game and it all comes together as an incredible experience. If you don’t mind the trouble and can keep playing the game, the number of things you can do with the girl is immense and you can go on forever. And considering how it is possible for the player to personalize the girl, the number of available characters is quite reasonable.

    9/10
The “friend” part can basically be described as a love simulation. There’s no fatigue meter in the game so it plays quite smoothly and comfortably. But, the real main part of the game is still the “lover” part. The link with real world time and the immense number of events leave me speechless. The slightly reluctant kiss had me completely absorbed in the game next thing I knew. The difference between the character modeling and the illustrations can be made up for by the character animations and voice.

    7/10
The real game starts after becoming lovers. It kinda makes me happy how a casual comment can make the girl try to change herself to fit your own tastes. There are two types of modes to the game, so you can date the girl at your own pace. Special events don’t happen everyday, the key to enjoying the game is to treat it like she’s a real girlfriend and enjoy a normal everyday life with her.

    8/10
It’s feels quite new how the main game actually only starts after you start dating the girl you like. The girls’ gestures are cute and it’s a big plus with the large variety in what they can say and in the large amount of events available in the game. It’s really good how the girl will slowly change her character and her appearance to fit your tastes. I wish there was more variation in the types of mail conversations you can have with her and the kind of chats you can have with her, but that might be asking for too much.

Love Plus got 32/40 in Famitsu which traditionally doesn’t give high scores for galge! Even Dream C Club only got 24/40.

Also Konami has been updating their project to make all Japanese men Love Plus and they have posted news clips which report stuff like how they found proof that Tokugawa Ieyasu was giving out copies of Love Plus to raise the morale of his troops.

They actually hired real professional newscasters for these videos. Konami is really hardcore serious about this.

So yeah, ToLoveru will be ending somewhere around the next few issues of Jump. There should be at least one other manga that will be getting cut soon too, and it seems Medaka Box is one of the likely candidates because it’s apparently going to be at the bottom of the rankings for Jump vol.40. I kinda liked Medaka.

    Update:

ToLoveru confirmed to end on Jump vol.40. Doesn’t seem to have anything else being cut, I’m surprised that both Akaboshi and Medaka have managed to survive this season.

Amazon is killing game stores (PS3 slim edition)

    Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

    ugly

  • Game shop reports that they only make a profit of 700 yen (US$7) per console
  • Amazon is selling preorders for PS3 slims at 5% off which means a 1,499 yen (US$15) discount
  • Another game shop says they’ll decrease the number of units they’re shipping into their store and will just order from Amazon to sell in their shop
  • Amazon Japan really is out to kill. I wonder what Japan’s game stores will be like in 3 years time if Amazon continues what they’re doing now.
