Agarest Senki Europe box art

shibui

The two box art shown above were the choices that were being considered by Ghostlight who were bringing Agarest to Europe. They’ve since then decided to use the original Japanese art after receiving feedback from users, but it’s… interesting that the 3D one was being considered.

Some European game stores are apparently already using the 3D art for the game’s product page in their online store.

The case of Layton in Europe had shown how a properly localized box art can bring huge sales, but… real designers are probably needed.

Doesn’t he look kind of like Gen from Sousei no Aquarian? I think he kind of grows on you after a while.

You know, like an infectious rash…

  2. Blackadder Says:

This reminds me of the old days when Valis/Shining Force and other JRPGs were released in America and they had photo-realistic high fantasy art that was the direct opposite of the original Japanese box art

Looks like Europe still has a use for aging, burnt-out rock stars.

I can see how they came up with the pic on the left:

PR dude A: Here’s the cover we are going to use *points to original art*?
PR dude B: Whoa dude don’t put porn on the front!
    A: WTF you talking about?
B: That’s those Jap cartoons right? I’ve heard they are all PORN! We’re so gonna get sued!
A: Well not really… *low voice* though it’s sorta true in our case…. well what do you think we should do then?
B: We need a male character on the front!
A: Oh you mean just remove all the female characters like this?
B: WTF you mean that girl in white is a dude *points to main character*?
    A: Er yes.
B: Dude he’s like a girl! WTF these Japs don’t know how to draw guys if their penis depends on it! You’ve got to buff him up! Gah can’t depend on these idiots, let me get another artists to do it! *picks up phone*
    [days later]
    B: And here it is!
    A: *lost for words* It’s… er….
    B: Manly, isn’t he?
A: Er let’s see if the original IP holders think *crosses fingers and secretly hope that they would reject it*
Clueless Jap management: We likez it! We approvez! We knowz nothingz about other marketz so what you givez us musta be goodo!
    A: *heads desk*

Some of us still lament the death of the era of the truly atrocious western box art — the Mega Man/Rock Man covers were a thing of beauty, man. For a more recent example, check out the cover used for “Mobile Light Force” (Gunbird) and “Mobile Light Force 2″ (Shikigami no Shiro).

What’s Kouga doing on the cover? Maybe this means the theme song will change to this as well.

    Reffering to the right pic.

I think you meant the left pic. I mean really, pink hair? Who’s she trying to fool, eh?

Couldn’t imagine what will happen if Idolmaster’s boxart was westernized.

the only thing I am worried about is the “12+” rating. I though the first title was “C” and the 2nd was a “D”. How much did they change in it to get a “12+”?

  16. Algester Says:

    @Hangmen
now now i imagined it and it burns my eyes <_< seriously if were getting back to the japanese to american box arts of the SNES era dont remind me of it !_!

I was bitching about this for a while but now that they decided to stick with the original art, I look at the 3D version again I kinda like it. lol It’s nothing I would have chosen especially since all the in-game graphics are the same but it’s not that bad.

  18. Anonymous Says:

It’s horrible because its being compared to the original.

The new art, by itself, is competent but boring.
