Fender’s Evangelion guitar auction
The auction for Fender’s Evangelion guitars reported previously has started and the Rei - Stratocaster is currently already at 9,076,000 yen (US$100,652) and the Rei - Telecaster at 7,728,000 yen (US$85,720) with 32 hours to go before the auction ends.
Update: It has ended with 9,082,000 yen for the Stratocaster and 7,761,000 yen for the Telecaster

Fucking rich otakus are fucking rich. You could pretty much buy a car with that kind of money. For some reason, I bet the winning bidder won’t follow through with the payment (that, or he’ll be working his ass off the next few years to pay it off).
Assuming that they have a high-end job, that price range is pretty much a year’s worth paycheck.
Actually, I can only imagine what kind of person the winning bidder is:
1. Celebrity (Japanese or other countries)
2. Rich otaku
3. HARDCORE otaku

Ah, but I was only pointing out the truth. It’s no surprise though that people whose pay doesn’t even come close to mine would think I was joking.
Compensation packages such as mine are only normal in the banking industry. I hate to spoil it for you chaps, but it looks like you chose the wrong degree and pursued the wrong career.
Back to the topic, is the auction still open? I don’t know how to play guitar, but I believe that Telecaster would make a lovely addition to my display collection. Or maybe I can use it for practice. Guitar playing can’t be that hard, especially for me.

I think the morale of the story is not that there are rich otaku out there, but that said rich otaku suddenly and randomly find themselves no longer so and with little to show for it.

I work in I-Banking myself. Maybe don’t make $800K as our troll friend over there (if he’s even telling the truth), but enough so that the price of this Fender Guitar isn’t too much of a stretch in personal funds should I chose to acquire it.
Too bad it wasn’t a Mari one though :/

I agree with the guy above me. That troll in the second comment is just trolling for kicks. I doubt all of what he said is true. I mean, people who are genuinely rich won’t go as low as bragging on some random internet site.
Take me, for example. I don’t earn $800,000 a year just like that troll claims he is earning (I only earn $600,000), but I will at least have the decency to refrain from showing off my income on the internet. I personally can acquire that guitar if I wanted to (and I have the personal funds to back my claim), but I won’t be a dick and brag about it on the internet.

I think the buyer is an investor. But i would use that money to buy Fender models like Stratocaster, Telecaster, Jazzmaster, Jaguar, Mustang, Jazz Bass, Precision Bass etc. and my friend who is CG & manga artist would do better paintjob on guitars than in that auction for the rest of money.
