One Piece Strong World started yesterday
Video of the queue on day 1 outside a cinema in Shibuya which didn’t allow advance bookings.
According to eiga.com, the first day of One Piece Strong World has grossed an estimated 400 million yen already, apparently the speed at which this is going at is completely unheard of for Toei.
In comparison, the previous movie One Piece episode of Chopper was shown in 293 cinemas across Japan, and while the current movie One Piece Strong World is only screened in 188 cinemas, it is grossing approximately 417% as much as the first day of the previous movie already.
Toei’s highest record for the first day was previously Kamen Rider which was screened in 345 cinemas and grossed 247 million yen on the first day, and Toei’s highest total gross was Otoko tachi no yamato, which screened on 290 cinemas and grossed 170 million on the first day and recorded a total of 510 million yen.
Also One Piece vol.0 which was given out apparently only had the chapter that was on Jump, some sketches from Oda, some ads for toys, and a director interview. It’s now going for high prices on yahoo auctions, with the highest I saw ending at 16,000 yen (US$169).
