Eva bicycles designed by Sadamoto Yoshiyuki

Media Magic has announced that they’ll be releasing new Evangelion themed bicycles designed personally by Sadamoto Yoshiyuki, the character designer for the Evangelion series. They commissioned him to design the bikes as cycling is one of his hobbies apparently.
They’ll be called the EVA00BIKE type-r and EVA02BIKE type-a, modeled after Rei and Asuka respectively. They’ll go for 98,280 yen (US$1093) each and are slated to release in mid June.
Media Magic also released a EVA01BIKE in 2006 which wasn’t designed by Sadamoto and goes for half the price and possibly look cooler too.

Fixed gear bikes like that are way cooler with the young crowd these days, and the simple flat colors are pretty much the norm in terms of how a fixed gear gets dressed up.
In short - yeah those are cooler and will likely sell more.

A diehard fan? I don’t know…
I’m sure tons of Eva fans would like to get one…probably.

I can’t believe that Sadamoto Yoshiyuki, an active bicyclist, would still be willing to put crappy side-pull calliper brakes on a bike with that price point…
I can understand the fixed/single gear set up but all things considering (lack of any suspension, more than likely rock hard sliver-of-a-seat) they’re selling the thing for twice what you can pay for a bike with three times the performance of either of these.

Ah, at long last. For only short of a hundred thousand Yen, we would all get the chance to ride Rei and Asuka.
