Any character that regardless of actual age has an appearance of being under 18, and has a possibility of causing youths to lust for or possibility of bringing this fantasy to real life, will have to be censored

No surprise there. Supercell’s always been awesome.

    Wow that’s fucking lame.

    Supercell’s rampage!

  6. Espr Says:

That’s too vague and could pretty much cover nearly everything.
I mean, what DOESN’T cause lust in teenagers? They might as well just say “no more art, whatsoever” solely due to Rule 34.

Japan’s known for it’s “crazy porn” when in reality they have some of the harshest censoring. How many civilized countries still censor their porn with mosaics? And now they want MOAR?

  7. Kaisos Says:

That proposed ban would effectively get rid of ALL anime and manga, with nearly no exceptions.

And it will pass. And there’s nothing any of us can do about it.

  8. washi Says:

Why do you say that, Kaisos? Any reason or just doomsaying?

  9. Kaisos Says:

    Doomsaying, like usual.

Always expect the worst. This way, when good things happen, you can ignore them.

makes no difference. On one hand the politicians pass a law that shows the rest of the “normal” world that they are doing something, and on the other either a) they get bribes from makers to turn a blind eye, or b) they don’t actually enforce the law which leads to a vibrant underground market which the politicians themselves probably setup a black shop with their yakuza friends to take advantage of tax envasion and money laundaring. Typical Japanese way of doing things.

Just watching that one video was enough to make me buy that guy’s manga.

“It is certainly clear from our data and analysis that a massive increase in available pornography in Japan has been correlated with a dramatic decrease in sexual crimes and most so among youngsters as perpetrators or victims.”

Porn protects kids. Think of the children and save the porn!

  13. sea crackers Says:

So these boneheaded censors want to make it illegal for young people to be attracted to images of other young people?

  14. Anonymous Says:

You know what? People that believe in censorship are human garbage.

  15. lawleeto Says:

    I lol’d at the phrasing.
    Censored instead of banned.
I mean, what, they will censor heads now?
    Or add Boobs now?
How can they censor more than they are already doing?

    >New proposed legislation amendment in Japan
    Here we go again.

  17. Anonymous Says:

It’s a progress now, censorship is no longer required for anything 18 or upper, and we all know for all eroge have the famous tag “all chars in this game is 18+”…

  18. cardcaptor Says:

The new amendment is going to be shot down just like any previous attempts. Otakus know how to lobby and will lobby.

  19. Moriken Says:

@Anonymous 9:53pm: appearance is physical looks, not age. And if she were 50 years old, doesn’t matter.
They should CG clothes in, like they did in the US with Dragonball :D

Anyway, the worldwide porn discussion is about as idiotic as the one about games (particularly ego-shooters) making kids run amok (which was pretty big in Germany last year, for example). In both cases it is scientifcally proven (or at least we are strongly inclined to conclude) that there is either a) no correlation or b) a positive influence, not a negative one. Makes one question why the heck we even have science when no one actually listens to the experts before deciding on policies.

  20. Kaisos Says:

Actually, violent video games ARE correlated with making people already inclined to violence more violent, and desensitizing all others.

Although the average person absorbs more violent imagery through the evening news than they do through any video game, so…

  21. Moriken Says:

    Yes, exactly, Kaisos.
The point is - people inclined to violence; or people with certain mental issues. But not every single sane human being on the planet (which is what the press wants everyone to believe).

  22. KiTA Says:

The thing is, Japan’s Christian Taliban has been on a witchhunt to try and ban, well, porn, for years. They’ve had some successes but http://www.savemanga.com/ and the like have mostly fought them back.

So instead of going for a “Lets ban loli hentai because comic book characters have human rights”, they have decided to go a different route, one that should be pretty familiar to the western world — “Won’t someone think of the children!?”

Hopefully it won’t pass, but they won the ban on “extreme” ero material over there, so, who knows?

  23. Anonymous Says:

They neglect to inform the public that this new law includes family baby photos as well. So parents can get charged by this law for possessing photos of their own children.

I wonder if they consider ultrasound images as child pornography as well?
